Edelbrock help

Hey all-

Problem I am running into recently and wanted to get some advice. Started my 302 with Edelbrock 1405 and it would not stay running after coming off high idle. Would not start back up after that. Have tried adjusting the choke but not sure that's the issue. It will sit on high idle just fine but once I bumpe the throttle after a few minutes, it sputters out.

Does this sound like a choke issue? Like maybe it is opening too fast? Mechanical fuel pump.

At first, I thought it was a fuel filter issue but just replaced that and it seems to be getting plenty of fuel. Actually, this afternoon, after it sputtered out, it percolated some gas out of the top of the carb.

Thoughts?? Gotta ger her running before summer.

Thanks

Sounds similar to an issue I experienced recently. Turned out to be a nasty vacuum leak.
Good luck.

Gas coming out the top should never happen and would tend to indicate that the fuel level is too high and that would creates a rich idle condition.

Time for a minor carb overhaul. Those use brass floats, so you won't have to change those. Be a good time to clean it up and install the offroad needle/seat upgrade.

Has it been sitting for an extended period? If so, my guess are that the bowls have the green deposits left over from evaporation of the awesome ethanol blended fuel forced upon us. Some of this may be blocking or partially blocking your low speed circuits. Removing the top of the carb exposes the bowls so you can inspect them. If you do find stuff in the bowls, I find it easiest to pull the carb off the manifold to thoroughly clean it.
