Hi,

so I need a replacement for the missing pilot bearing/bushing for my bronco after it's engine rebuild. It's a 302 and an NV3550 with the advacne adaperts kits. Years ago when I did the conversion it was a bushing. now they look to be selling a bearing for that? Is that just an advance in technology from when I did it last.

Looking at advance adapters 716122 (wild horses 7210)

Is that the correct item?

ok, cool. Their description for the bushing was not a slam dunk. I live close to AA so I'll run up there Wednesday and pick something up.

I think either would work. Anything other than preference that might make a decision? It's just a nice rebuild, nothing ridiculous, on a daily driver.

I prefer the bushing. When the bushing fails it just gets sloppy. When the bearing fails it will likely score the pilot of the input shaft requiring the input shaft to be replaced as well.

cool, i was thinking similar. I'm sure either would be fine for what I'm doing with it.

Thanks

Nope. AA recommends that this one just gets a good soaking in motor oil.

I knew that from last time.

the bushing worked well for me so I'll stick with it. just need to see if its easier to drive 40 miles to get it or if they can ship in a hurry. I need to get the bronco running because my son get's his drivers license next week and wants his 4runner back!

I'll let him learn to driver the bronco if he goes a year without crashing his truck....

The material is called oilite bronze. It's oil impregnated bronze. The AA instructions were very clear to soak in oil and not use any grease.

Well I went up to AA today and got my new bearing. They said one reason for the change from bushing to bearing is the bronze is getting hard to come by and getting way more expensive. Sounds reasonable.
