Trying to decide on which type of paint to use and why? I really don't want a single stage. it's been over 30 years since I painted a vehicle%) I am about a month out to be ready to paint, just trying to plan ahead

Urethane basecoat and Southern Urethane clearcoat. Color sands and buffs beautifully.

I used TCP Global acrylic enamel with a hardener solid color with no clear coat.

Mines a trail/street rig that's parked outside 24 - 7 if it gets messed up its easy to fix. No miss matched metallic touch-ups and no peally clear coat.

I am a big fan of solid colors unless you have a pure garaged street machine then go for anything you wish to spray.

I think hippie states have shut most of them down.

That. I have to have a lot of the paint (and some other chemicals) I use shipped to my commercial property in Virginia and carry it home from there.. :-X

I have used tcgglobal for several car projects and I like the customer service (call and ask them anything!) and the pricing.

I always use base coat / clear coat on the exterior for UV / acid rain / bird crap protection. Acrylic urethane is tough as nails once it dries. Any lacquer based system, even if it has clear coat, is not long term unless the vehicle is stored indoors.

For example I painted my Bronco in House of Kolor products from primer to clear. It looks pretty good six years later but I drive it in the winter and wash it once a year but I keep it inside. HoK is a lacquer based system and it is not as tough as PPG or RM and my truck paint is starting to fail in the typical places.

I have painted PPG epoxy primer on parts and had them look like the day they were sprayed 5-10 years later. They are industrial products.

These guys have a good website and some very good reviews. Limited base color choices but you can pick your base at a store near you and use their clears. That is what I am planning to do this spring. SPI is their site. Ken

TCP Global is a excellent choice, I used some of their products, but for paint I went with Sherwin Williams, mainly because my brother in Law is a manager there. I went with acrylic urethane base/clear, nice stuff. ;D

But some people do clear coat single stage as well. I'm not a big fan of clear coat either even factory clear coat. The Arizona sun tears it up. Old single stage paint may fade but you can buff it back to looking like new.
Ive had good luck with TCP global in the past I will use them again if I ever get around to painting my bronco.

why i am going with a ppg single stage urethane. local body shop who does custom and insurance work uses ppg single stage on whites and some other colors says it perfect. but if i was painting a metallic color i would be forced to go with a two stage ppg
