Goodbye Walbro Hello Deatschwerks

For far too long, I suffered from the loud excessive wine of my Walbro in-tank fuel pump, and unfortunately, I made my loved ones suffer with me. The Walbro was so loud that it competed with my Magnaflow muffler. I had some performance loss over a year or so time span, I am also going to a 351, so I decided to drop my tank. To my horror, the coating on the inside of my tank was almost completely surrounding the fuel pump prefilter and causing some fuel starvation issues.
Long story short, I swapped out my way too loud for my late 30's ear's Walbro and put in my Deatschwerks pump. It is quiet. So quiet in fact that I thought it was not working until I jumped my pump connection to prime the pump, and sat right next to the tank. If anyone has ever wondered about these pumps, buy it, install it, and love the performance. It's like it was made for the BC tank.

I will post a video of the sound difference as soon.

Impeller in-tank pumps are 2nd to none, so go Deatschwerks or Delphi and thank me later.

Thanks for reading

Which coating did you use in your tank? I investigated coating the interior of my new tank, but ended up not doing it (for now). Seems hit or miss on whether the coatings adhere to the inside of the tank - Caswell seemed the best recommended.

The coating was whatever BC Broncos used. I just know I am not friends with it. I will post the Deatschwerks video soon, however, there are a couple of comparison videos out there, and they are pretty good.

Holleee shat that is loud. I thought my stock pump on my 23gal tank was loud
Noticed that ford actually put a foam insulation around the pumps from the factory
Thanks for the info

It was the stock coating in the tank the chipped off. I got out as much as I could before I put the pump in.

Do you have a model number for the pump you used?

DeatschWerks 9-201-1014, and you will need the foam sleeve to make it fit tight in the BC Broncos pump holder. Other than the pump diameter, everything with this kit works awesomely well in the tank, such as the wiring is long enough, and the in-tank hose is perfectly curved.

Ok, thanks, I think?

So I went ahead and put the pump in thinking I could be ahead of any issues with a 'too loud' pump which is why I was going with the new tank in the first place. Frame mount pump was way louder than what your video was. Got everything hooked up, started pump, checked for leaks then started engine.

Engine runs fine it seems, can't drive it yet need driveshaft. What concerns me is it's only showing 20# on the gauge. My loud frame mount would get as high as 43# and was 40# when I started this adventure.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Jim W.
