I’ve never seen a frame painted like that but it makes sense...you can let gravity drip it into those crevices.

I mainly did it so I could paint the top and bottom at once. I wanted to knock it all out today. I still need to hit the spring hangers once it’s laying horizontally again though.

Very cool. Mine was prob made pretty close to yours. Mines 820080. It’s in the range for late Feb 1966.

Making slow progress.

I finally heard from the machine shop; they’re going to have to bore it to clean up some taper and turn the crank. I’ve gotten most of the parts, so as soon as I get it back I can build up the engine.

Over the last week or so, I cleaned up most of the rest of the chassis parts and got them painted yesterday. The frame is done, and I got the rear axle bump stops and the crossmember back on today.

I also picked up some engine paint today, and sprayed the oil pan. It was pretty rusty, and is really thin in a few spots, but nothing rusted through.

I plan on tearing the axles down starting tomorrow. I think they will just need seals, gaskets and some paint.

I would find another oil pan before you install the motor. That one has some heavy pitting on it and they are hard to change once the motor is installed (have to jack the motor up to finagle the pan from around the cross member). Just a suggestion that may save you some time down the road.....

Yeah, I’m not thrilled with how deep some of those pits are.

I’ve got a parts Bronco at my parents place in the UP, I’ll have to take a look at the pan on it when I’m up there this weekend. I need to take my trailer up there and drag it down here one of these days. I’ll probably do it sometime this summer. I’m not looking forward to it though, it’s a long drive.

I started tearing down the front axle. Got the steering linkages off, and both brake drums pulled. Also got one of the hubs taken off. Not a ton of progress, got a late start. Everything is looking good so far.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been able to do a little bit, off and on.

I took the rear axle apart, cleaned, reassembled with new gaskets and seals, and painted it. Started doing the same with the front.

Everything was in good shape, except the u-joints in the front axles and the kingpin bearings. Of course, those are kind of expected with a fifty-plus year old vehicle.

Hopefully I can get the front axle finished up soon. The kingpin bearing kits are backordered. Once that’s done, I’ll get both axles back on and have a rolling chassis again.

Still waiting on all of the engine components back from the machine shop.

Been a while since I’ve updated...

I’ve worked on it off and on this summer. Been lots of other stuff going on.

I now have a rolling chassis again. Finally got all the engine parts back from the machine shop a couple of months ago. They ended up boring it, and turning the crank. The engine is going back together, should have it assembled today, or next week sometime. Depending on how much other stuff I have do do.

I’ve done a little more to the chassis since I took those pics, apparently.

Gas tank is now in, and all of the brake lines are run.

Looks good, just found your thread. Making good time on this. I have several '66's in the wings, speaking of which I see an aeronautical chart. I flew up to Beaver Island and Mackinac last week!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this. Since the last update, I got the engine, transmission and transfer case back in the frame. Driveshafts got most of the u-joints replaced, I had forgotten how much I dislike those double cardan joints.

Christmas came to the shop a couple of days late, but it’s here. I drove up the Jeff’s today and picked up the body kit. Lots of work ahead now! Tons of parts and pieces to weld together.
