I have been looking for a Ford Lightning Lower intake for my 351w that I am fixing to have rebuilt. They are hard to come by and the ones on Ebay are higher than a giraffes back. Does anyone have one they are willing to sell that will not break the bank? Also, are there any alternatives that are of the same quality as the Ford Lightning that will fit my build. I have an explorer with a 5.0 that i will be using the upper and OEM EFI for my 351w. Thank you for the help.

The idea that people NEED fuel injection is BS. Get a '69 Mustang/Cougar 4 bbl intake and a good carb. It will fit under the hood with no body lift or destruction of the hood.

Expand your search to Marine versions. Yes cast iron and heavy. I run one. Found it half the price of a true Lightning lower.

They're listed as Volvo Penta and Ford. Two different part numbers.

Got mine $350 to the door......but it's been like 5 years ago

Other option is the stock truck 5.8 lower and the BC adapter with Mustang upper. Yes flow is not as good so some top end loss but much cheaper route. Might want to look at it will you find deal on a Lightning lower.

Uhm, I need fuel injection. Since there is no such thing as a "good carb."

The 351 EFI upper intake problem has been solved many times already.

The BC Broncos 11-82010 EFI manifold adapter is $130 and will get you where most people end up.

You won't be able to use your GT-40 Explorer Upper...but you can use a 5.0 Mustang HO upper.

Edelbrock Victor upper and lower is ~$775 or the TrickFlow is about the same price. Even if you don't "need" it for performance sometimes it is the cleanest most cost effective option.

The OMC ( Think ski-boat ) Ski Nautique 351 lower intake is another option to run GT40 stuff. I know a guy, he has the intake still. I'll PM you his info.

I don't think the OP ever said anything about NEEDing fuel injection. Is it ok if we say that we strongly WANT fuel injection? :)

I NEED fuel injection. If I didn’t have fuel injection, then I would be pumping 255 liters per hour of fuel into my engine compartment and it would set itself on fire...

Thanks guys for the information. The questions weren’t asked to receive a combative reply. Fuel injection is a desire for me and something I want.......never said needed or had to have. I will look into your ideas and suggestions and hopefully find something that works. Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

What is a carb you would recommend?

You can find many after market 351W EFI intakes for less money than people want for the 93 to 95 Lightning intakes. The Tubular intakes are one of the best looking intakes IMO. I had three at one point and sold them all. Because the upper intake does not flow high numbers for stroked engines. Porting can not fix this issue. It’s a choke point. They work good mild engine applications.

You can troll the mustang sites for a used after market or Lightning intake. You can still purchase Chinese Knock-offs for around $500.

Also, EFI is a great improvement for off-roading and overland traveling IMO. Good luck.

People don't "NEED" Broncos either but... lol

What SteveL said about carbs... Qjet all the way. No comparison off road and for on road, nothing has low end torque like the air velocity created with small primariies on a 351... can't touch it with Holley's.

If you're going off road a q-jet. If its never gonna see dirt a performer or a q-jet.

I'm not there yet, but i am planning on staying with carburetion. I"ve always had good luck with them. Thanks for the suggestions.

Why not?

Trick flow EFI

$399

5.8 lower

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-515l0004

They are behind in production. I'd go with this over a lightening any day... I went with Edelbrock 5.8 EFI upper/lower. Now out of production but used ones are out there.

I ran it on a 418... great low end torque.

I do not know as I've run a raised hood for so long.

Check out TF website for dimensions.
