• Be EXTREMELY cautious if someone offers to buy your Bronco for more than your asking price and sight unseen. ESPECIALLY if the buyer is overseas. It's probably a scam.

Working on a 85 F350 6.9 idi my son just bought. Wanting to convert it to Hydroboost and a Saginaw ps setup. My understanding the van idi engines have this setup just like ford did with the gas engines in vans. I know it's a long shoot but it can't hurt to post.

Can you show a photo of what you're looking for? You reference the van saginaw bracket. Are you talking about the 5.0 serpentine one? If so, I have a couple of them available.

Curious if that bracket is compatible with the explorer serpentine bracket and pulleys on the driver side. If so, what would you want shipped to 27587?

It's not.

For the hydro boost setup, I'd recommend this one from Battle Born Brakes:

https://www.battlebornbrakes.com/pr...rd-f250-f350-hydroboost-brake-booster-upgrade

They have booster setups that seem to address the various differences between years on their website.

The bracketry for the pump might be a little trickier to source but I'm sure an IDI diesel guru might be able to help. What pump's on there now? Plastic CII?

To be honest I haven't looked at the PS pump but from what I've read ford did the same applications for the Saginaw pump only put on van motors.

That is true in numerous cases (i.e. see Justin's bracket and picture above). The serpentine Saginaw van setups are a popular, and very good upgrade on the serpentine setups in the pickups and Broncos. I did a little snooping online this morning and it appears that some folks used the v-belt gas engine brackets/pumps on the 6.9 diesels. I still sometimes see the van gas engine v-belt setups but they aren't nearly as common.

You literally state "My understanding the band have this setup just like the gas engines in vans did."

So you say you're looking for the same bracket as a gas engine in a van, but then say it needs to be a diesel bracket. No one is going to understand what you're looking for with all of this conflicting information.

You are reading it wrong. Because he typed it wrong. But when I use my "Ford Van" interpreter...the question is this:

"I have an 85 F350 with the International 6.9L diesel. I want to upgrade to a Saginaw power steering pump. My understanding is that the Econoline Van of this era used a Saginaw steering box and pump when equipped with a gas engine. I believe that the 6.9L diesel version of that Van might have also used the Saginaw steering box, and pump. If so, does anyone have a set of brackets and pulleys for a 1984 Econoline Diesel?

Correct. The 1984 Econoline with the 6.9 IDI was factory equipped with a Saginaw pump. Here's a pic.

That's gotta be as rare as hen's teeth in terms of finding that combo anywhere.

It's worse than that. The 6.9 IDI is probably the worst engine ever put in a truck. So all of them got horribly abused, and killed off early. The only possible thing that could be more dumb would be to put that same engine in a truck with 2 fuel tanks, an ambiguous fuel tank selector switch, and a cowl mounted fuel separator running on the suction side of a mechanical fuel pump made out of aluminum with a rubber plug that cannot withstand corrosion by...water.

This is the only possible configuration that will allow the engine to suck air, lose prime, die on the road...and miraculously seal enough to not leak diesel. Fortunately, it only happens after servicing the truck and pulling the water separator pull ring. So if you never maintain your truck, it lasts longer. But you do have some interesting discussions with your service advisor. Similar to the 5.0 Coyote typewriter tick, and associated rod bearing failure. "Well it ran fine before I changed the oil..."

Now if you put a turbo on that 6.9 and call it a 7.3 then it starts to get better. As long as you don't put it in front of an E4OD...

I made an edit to my post. It wasn't very clear. I was trying to point out all vans got the Saginaw pump not that they were all interchangeable. Sorry

Funny this truck has dual tanks and everything else. It has a C6 in now but soon it'll have a ZF. It's what my son wanted from interior color, 6.9 and SRW crew cab. The only thing negative was it is a two wheel drive truck so it's getting converted to a 4x4.

I applaud and encourage your effort. I had well over a half million miles in my 84 F250 6.9 IDI. Also started life as a 2WD. I converted it to a 4x4 with the TTB Dana 50 IFS. Mine was a supercab. I also had an 89 Crew cab 4x4 with the E4OD.

There are a couple of things that every Ford 6.9 IDI should have:
1. Turbo.
2. Water separator delete.
3. Electric fuel pump mounted and plumbed for priming.
4. Large bypass push button for glow plugs. Get rid of the coolant temperature GPC.
5. ZF
6. F350 Monobeam Dana 60 front axle.
7. Instructions to contact harbor master for mooring and turning.
8. Kidney belt or medical insurance for washboard roads.
9. New door panels.
10. New iphone number, because every friend you ever met will be calling to get your help.

Have fun!

I'll share all of this with my son but knowing him he's already looking into all of that. I do have some kind of fuel line kit to install for him. Suppose to be better than factory. I have so many boxes of stuff sitting is his room that he's been ordering for it. Hard to keep up.

He went with the Sky conversion kit for the D60 using SD leaflet springs. Suppose to ride better.

Can't believe I found the Saginaw pump for a idi and V belt. It was just about 40 minutes North of me for $100.
