Starting to round up parts for my next upgrade to my roller 351 with lightning lower and Explorer upper and efi.

I'm leaning towards slapping the cobra supercharger, cobra injectors, cobra throttle body, and cobra MAF straight on the 351 with the lightning 351 lower and gt40 heads and see what I got.

I'm aware the heads and lower are giving up lots of hp. Down the road I will get bigger aluminum heads and have the lower ported is my plan.

Should be fun.

Not real sure if the cobra throttle body and MAF will share the same wiring as the explorer MAF and TB plugs.

May need to get aftermarket TB and MAF to plug into my Explorer wiring, the stock cobra has twin 57 mm throttle body, so I would need to find a 114mm aftermarket with either explorer plug wiring.

Trying to get that supercharger for a mod motor to fit the 351 is going to be way more challenging they figuring if the TPS connector can be converted. Nothing is going to fit. Not to mention to tuning needed to make all that work.

Once you have the mechanical side it things figured out, the EFI side will be easy. the EFI is not the show stopper. Everything else about putting a mod motor supercharger on a windsor based engine will be.

Kit is made and ready for Explorer efi. The had a aluminum gt40 plate cast and adapter to put the belt in line with the Explorer serp.

There is a good ford efi tuner about 4 hours from me around New Orleans LA. Hell, I'll drive to Colorado and visit EFIGuy if I have to, LOL

Only real issue is this is an extremely tall setup.

Aftermarket ecu would definitely be the goal. Using 28 year old ecus should be avoided:)

You should be able to still used the explorer MAF. As for the TPS you should be able to use the cobra sensor and plug then just connect the explorer wires to the right terminals. TPS sensors are just sweeping resistors. Power ground and signal. You will need to calibrate everything though. The amount of air that will be drawn through the MAF may overwhelm the stock housing. You may be better served at this point going to an aftermarket ECU so you can program all your fuel and spark maps appropriately.

Talk with your tuner about what MAF to run. They often have a personal favorite that they know well and they can tune. The MAF has to support what airflow the engine can digest. Worst possible thing is for the MAF to reach peak and then even more air goes through. I guess that could be as bad as injectors reaching 100% duty and needing to run 125% duty to provide enough fuel. Either way is bad.

Never heard of the super charger adapter before. I guess someone makes it. Does that have the intercooler bricks in it or does it make hot boost?

Yes, they make an intercooler you can install between the lower adapter and supercharger.

I figure the stock cobra MAF and throttle body would match the m112

Maybe. You are also going from 4.6 to 5.8 liters of engine. That should flow more air, so the supercharger should flow more air, and I don't know where the MAF caps out at. And if the tuner can't tune around that MAF that well. Just have a talk with the tuner before committing to buying parts. The last engine I had tuned I picked some parts, talked with my tuner, he made some changes that cost me nothing extra and allowed him to better tune the engine.

Is your tuner Delphi in New Orleans?

Not anymore, I read your experience with him recently, LOL.
There is a shop with a great 90s ford guy and he does supercharger work in Dallas area I will use, found him and talked to him recently . I don't want remote tuned, I want it done on a dyno.

FWIW a single throttle plate of about 81mm is roughly the same circular area as the twin 57mm plates. I suspect that a single 114mm plate would be really, really large for the engine.

And that directly interprets into trying to ease into the throttle, whether you are on a slippery road surface, or you are for wheeling in some rocks in a gnarly place.

You barely touch the throttle and all of a sudden, you've moved three feet...

This is a major issue, as I've helped guys with ls throttle response issues Since they have such a large diameter throttle plate on such small ci engines.

The difference is huge opening a 95 millimeter throttle plate a crack compared to opening an 80 mm throttle plate a crack

I've fought that a couple times. If your plan is drag racing or something where full throttle is the only thing to care about, bigger is better. But drivability is often thrown in the trash to get it.

Look at 80's and early 90's for trucks. The throttle body linkage had a complex second linkage built into it. Takes a lot of thottle pedal stroke to crack the throttle off the line, but little travel to get the last half of the throttle open. Good engineering. It's like most 4-barrel applications where the secondaries don't even have the option to start opening until about half throttle. Also a progressive throttle linkage on a multi-carb engine.

I did a big throttle body on a stroked 5.0 engine I built for a Ranger. Off idle it was nothing more than an on/off switch. Try to use cruise on a flat highway, it just surged. Eventually put a stock 65mm Explorer throttle body on it. didn't feel any loss of power. Did gain huge amounts of drivability.

I also did a Sniper on a 460. Same thing. Touch the throttle and at low RPM all 4 throttle blades opened at once. Just a slight amount of throttle and all 4 blades would flow enough air to fill the intake, manifold vacuum gone, might as well just mash the throttle to the floor. The engine took off the same way. Highway cruise was about 6% throttle opening. Impossible to maintain a steady speed. Just 1% change in throttle was signifient enough to be losing speed or gaining speed. Installed a progressive linkage kit. Now I cruised at 12-13% throttle. I could hold a steady speed. A 1% change in throttle wasn't a huge change in airflow. I could pull away from a stop in a controlled fashion, not just full power. Mash it, all the throttle opened and that wasn't the limiting factor.
