JeepGuy- my comments very specifically did not mention a vendor and was just expressing my frustration I would have if it took 3 emails over the course of 3-5 days to solve a problem that would take 4 MINUTES via a phone call. THAT is customer service. :)

I can understand if they have guys trying to rip them off over "he said, she said" for sure and here's how the vendor in question could/should handle that (if this is the case).

My daughter works for a large world-wide firm that has some kind of digital transcription/recording device that can keep track of every phone call with dictation to authenticate comments, concerns or questions on the phone. Recalling the exact phone call isn't hard and it works great because then the recording is transcribed and recorded and no "he said, she said" and then a human can talk with the customer for situations like this. Just a thought... this makes the customer happy and can solve their issue within minutes not days or possibly a week or more AND the vendor is covered because they can quickly recall the conversation EXACTLY as it happened and if the customer is trying to rip them off they can be called on it. :)
Here we go...
The attitude and mitigations that you describe are a symptom of the "zero-sum" customer service model which creates a rigid win-lose dynamic.

ANY time a company feels compelled to record, transcribe, validate, prove, or determine the "EXACT anything" is an example of the customer and the company as opposing forces. That framework means that anything that benefits the customer comes at the expense of the company and this adversarial relationship opens the door for entrenchment, argument, reinforcement, and battle. No Customer has EVER been happy that their words are used against them for problem resolution.

Amazon has made a fortune with their problem resolution model. If the customer needs help, they get help. The WORST case is that their money is cheerfully refunded. If reverse logistics are costly, they simply refund your money and tell you to keep the item. There are a number of vendors that won't sell on Amazon, because of the returns policy. This says a lot more about the vendors than about Amazon. Amazon NEVER assumes that the customer is trying to rip them off. In fact, the very idea that a customer can "rip-off" a seller is counter productive and harmful. If you determine that you don't want a specific account or customer, then don't sell to that account or customer. Don't prepare to go to war with me...just because you have gone to battle with others. If I even think that you are preparing to wage battle, you have already lost.

At least one of the vendors on this site has a generous, absolute, and customer focused resolution process:
1. Sell good stuff. (profit)
2. Use your stuff. (learn)
3. Create and publish videos and FAQ's for your stuff. (help)
4. If you have a problem with the stuff, answer the phone. (accommodate)
5. Provide an easy path to escalate and share expertise about the stuff. (share)
6. Accept the stuff back, no questions asked. Charge a nominal % without drama if you must. (save)
7. Collect the stuff in a warehouse and host a giant swap meet once a year to recoup any costs. (communicate)
8. Use the information and feedback about the stuff (feedback)
9. Improve the stuff. (improve)
10. Go To #1.

Notice that every step in the process is a benefit to someone. Nowhere do we: fight, argue, hate, scream, punish, avoid, delay, belittle, ridicule, cancel or de-value.
This is winning. (if you recognize the vendor, then you know.)

I am hoping that someone at DUFF's reads this thread and recognizes the shite storm they are causing and agressivly reverses course and corrects this issue.

Why don’t you just call Duff’s, ask for Mike or Suzy, and have a conversation? I expect your issues will be resolved….

@Slowleak I think that is the point made by the OP... he cannot "call and have a conversation" because they are now on an email only protocol for tech. support. I have not confirmed that personally, but based on the emails OP provided, it sure looks like he cannot simply call them to chat. If he could, then the entire post here is written in error of the facts.

Ok… Never had any issues with them. Spent a lot of time talking with Mike at Super Cel and it seems like he would want to hear it.
I’m sure tech support has their process and if it isn’t working I would call the main number and ask for Mike, avoiding tech support or customer service. That was my point….

James Duff still operates (or what feels) like a mom and pops operation. it potentially feels like they are making efforts to compete in marketing (social media?) with WH but aren't there yet. their email interface feels like a staffing resource strategy.

as i posted earlier, my experience with warranty/issues with James Duff has been measureably slower compared to the other vendors. BUT it's not all bad... i had quality issues within my LCR gas tank from them. they undeniably took it back and made it right. did it take a while via email, yes! an additional step i much appreciated was that they DID CALL a couple weeks after the exchange to check in and see if i had further concerns. this was after i replied to the email thread letting them know i received the tank and installed it. no vendor has ever done that for me.

When I called and talked to them on the phone, it was a salesman. I don’t really need to talk to “Mike or Suzy” I’m assuming they are owners or management. I don’t care. I don’t talk to the owners or management at WH or Toms when I had an issue with a shipment. The salesman took care of the problem. “Hey these don’t fit can you help me, I think I got the wrong ones?” Oh yes you did! as I’m on the phone with them measuring the parts I got. Awesome problem solved.

Another time with Duffs, ordered a big shipment that included free shipping. Cool.

Called back and said hey can I order this little part, size of a watch and throw that in the box?

Flat out was told no place a new order and pay shipping. I said my order hasn’t even left your building , still no. I don’t get it. But that fine as there are other places to buy from.

Well, maybe it’s just me. If I don’t get the service I expect from a vendor. I escalate it until I do. It has always worked out for me. I know you shouldn’t have to but, sometimes you do.
Good luck. Hopefully they will get it resolved quickly.

Seems odd, I have been buying and communicating with them for years without issue and they have always been good to me. Sorry you are having problems. I guess nobody is perfect.

Agreed Duff is very difficult to deal with on returns and warranty. For this reason I no longer purchase from them. Shipping is also outrageous. It’s unfortunate they do sell some amazing parts.

I had a rant on Duff last year. It was a terrible story and they didn’t really care about me. I initially talked with Susie, but then got the email run around. From that initial call, nobody ever talked to me. I kept asking to speak to someone, but they just sent me emails telling me I was outside the warranty window for missing parts on an order. This went on for two weeks, but nobody would respond to my request to talk. They eventually got ugly with me in their emails.

Wild Horses has been the only place I order from since that happened in April of 2025. I’ve sense spent a lot of money with WH, probably more than $10k. It would have all gone to Duffs, but it didn’t.

I like Monster Mike videos. That’s about it.

This is what I got back today. I filed a charge back with my credit card. I didn’t get what I expected and if they want to be rude about this whole situation so be it. There is no way they used plugs in any of the holes, Including the ones for the bushings.

clayton needs to work on his people skills, you'd think the bushings were coming out of his own pocket.

On a side note... I rolled a bunch of coins we had in a jar and I wanted to take them to our primary bank to deposit them. Having not done this in a very long time, I called our primary bank (well known name brand) to ask if the procedure had changed. 3 phone calls later, with out talking to a human and wasting my time on hold or navigating the options, I gave up.
So I still have an account at our local BMO, used to be my Dad's bank when he was alive. Called and it was picked by a real person!!! She gave me the info in short order and when I went in she was the Teller that helped me. I thanked her and said something to the manager about their customer service. This thread did cross my mind, and Customer service has pretty much died in MHO. But when you find it, you want to broadcast it!
Sorry you are going through this, I hope there is a resolution.

Yep. I will pay more for the same part from a company that I have a relationship with...that relationship is determined by their customer service. I will go through WH for just about anything I can. Cannot beat the customer service. I had some new chrome bumpers that I ordered, and the restoration took longer than I thought (I know, hard to believe), and the bumpers sat in my shop for almost a year. When I finally took them out of the box, they had nasty ripples in the metal. I posted the issue on this site and Jim from WH said to reach out to him. He did not even know if I bought them from him. I reached out and he had a new show quality set of bumpers delivered to my door within a week...no charge. (I did in fact get them from WH). I have since spent over 15k at WH and they are the ones I refer all my friends to. So while Duff's is trying to make a "point" regarding the bushings that they suggest they are not responsible to provide free, they equally are making the point that those bushings are more important than their reputation for quality customer service.

Duff's...here is the email and phone call that makes lifetime loyal customers:
"Sorry to hear that your install did not go as planned. Could be how you did it or perhaps on us where some powder coating got too heavy in the sleeve opening. Whatever the issue, we are sending you out new sleeves. When you get them and are ready to install, give me a call at (xxx-xxx-xxxx) and we can discuss install suggestions. We appreciate your business and will do whatever we can to make this right. Cheers! Management"

Again, Customer Service is King. Remember when there used to be a business saying. "The Customer is always right"? That was not intended to create a situation where a company could be taken advantage of, and truth be told, that actually rarely happens. That saying was about a Culture of Service...one that set a tone, an expectation, and gave employees the clear message that customers should always be given the benefit of the doubt and that in nearly all cases, do what needs to be done to serve the customer's needs. This is why most of us will pay a bit more, and a yearly fee to Amazon. Not just because of the delivery to your door super-fast, but also because their return policy is remarkable. Oh yea, did I mention they are a trillion-dollar business because of that!

I also have a 1955 T Bird. I ordered a part from a TBird company and the part was faulty out of the box. Easy to diagnose in that it leaked radiator fluid out around its sealed lip. I called the company. I had to make a video and send it to them. Than I had to pay to send it back to them. When they refunded me for the part, they did not refund the $18 I paid to have it shipped to me. I called them to ask why and they said they do not refund shipping...even on a faulty part they sent. So I paid the $18 to ship it to me, $18 to ship it back. They refuned me the $98 that the part cost. So, moral of the story...I will never buy a single thing from them again. Will pay more from another vendor, and will make sure everyone I talk to knows they are a poor company to work with and to get parts from someone else.

Not Bronco related, but Customer Service related:

I opened a charge account at the local Lowe's as they advertised a 20% discount on your first use of it (max $100 discount). I then purchased an American Standard shower stall and needed extras for camp. It rung up just shy of $1000. The clerk showed me 2 options on the screen - either 5% off or 12 months zero interest??? I questioned her about the 20% off and she said that's not what the screen showed. Chose the 12 months, zero interest option.
This bugged me once I got home and I looked at the pictures on my phone stating the 20% discount. I called the store back right away. The clerk told me to wait for a manager (that I asked to speak to initially). 20 minutes later on hold, the girl picks up again and apologizes and direct transfers me to the main manager,
I explain what happened and he asked if I could come back in - I said NO it was too far. He did say the check out girl was indeed wrong and he would credit me the 20% discount. I said it should only be $100, not quite $200. He said that was for my INCONVENIENCE!!!! He also said I got to keep the 12 months Zero interest!!

NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

I will be going back there to buy new shower controls/shower head and anything else I might need to finish my install at camp. It did take a bit of time to get to a "real person" (the manager) and I suggested they get rid of the automated Bullcrap!!! He said he agreed with that, but it is a corporate decision to not use real people.

I have only ordered 2 things from Duff and had no issues. I have also ordered from WH, TB, NE Bronco, Jeff's, NPD, BC. Had a few missing parts from a couple of vendors that were resolved with a call and follow-up email. The way it should be.

Had a similar Lowes issue with an upright freezer. 4th of July sale in 2017 $1000 on sale for $800. 1st one delivered with door crushed in, sent it back. Manager credited me $100, reorder. Second one delivered, no power on $200 more. Manager reorder $200 off. 3rd one delivered Had a pallet fork thru the back thru the coils into the freezer itself. $200 more off. 4th was fine, so $300 for a $1000 list freezer

Wait. You filed a charge back for the entire purchase of the T Rex arms over bushings? Or a charge back for the cost of the bushings?

Why don't you just return the entire set up and buy a different product?
