Nothing about the steering box would make it suddenly make the tire rub if it didn't before. If it didn't before, that means your previous setup didn't allow you to turn the wheel that far. Now you can. You need to figure out how to re-adjust so you have the same amount of turn as before...

I've seen double throw switches like that to replace the fan switch. I can't say for sure that's what yours is for. Given that's it's momentary, probably not for the fan or lights. Could be a winch.
