Recommended Tire size question

I've got a set of 84-91 OEM wagon wheels

image_zps637d65dd.jpg

(Not a picture of the actual wheels, just a reference picture I found on the Internet.

My beauty rings have the double red pinstripe. Both the rings and center caps are NOS so the wheels will be perfect. Size is 15x7.

They are going on my 74 Ranger that is uncut but has a 2.5 inch TBP suspension. I don't necessarily want the biggest tire, but the size that will be proportioned the best for the fenders/quarters. Also looking for opinions whether to go with raises white letters or blackwalls. The color is Ginger with the Ranger decals and white hard top. Totally stock exterior appearance except the lift and wheels/tires.

Any opinions and/or pictures would be welcome.

You want a street-friendly tire, or an off-road aggressive looking type?
The widest section width tire you would normally mount on a 7" wide rim would typically be 11.50 (the old "max of 4 inch wider than wheel" general rule-of-thumb). So you could run a 32x11.50x15 tire if you could fit it under the wheel well. Looks-wise too, the 32 is a nice size for a Bronco. Since you're uncut though, and with the offset of that wheel, I'm guessing that would be too wide of a tire. A 31x10.50 then?

There are 33x9.50's (if they still make them) from some of the companies like BFG and such. Those 31x9.50's would work, but a Swamper is in that "looks good, but not your best daily-driver tire choice" category.

Something in that range then. Go metric and there might be more choices. 235/75 maybe? That's like a 30 or so tall tire if I remember, but I just went off memory and didn't do the math. Check out a chart to see if you can find a narrow one in the 31 to 33 range and less than 10.50 inches wide.

Hmm, I think a friend is running those wheels on an uncut '74 Ranger. I'll ask him to chime in on this.

I'm leaning towards the BFG All Terrain right now with raised white letters. I've searched and searched tire sizes and I'm thinking 31x9.5's. I'm concerned with the rears rubbing. Most of the time this truck will be on road but I still want it capable off road, not extreme, just capable. Looks are my primary concern.

30s and 31s both look great on LUBERs with 2.5" lifts.

No personal experience, but from what I've read you should be OK with the 31s. However BFG A/Ts don't come in 31x9.5s, at least they're not listed on their website. 31x10.5 seems to be the available size, and with that size you need to be mindful of the offset of those wheels.

Well, crap! I didn't look to see if they still made the 9.5 or not.

I may have to switch gears and go with a 265/75R15 then and go with a Goodyear tire. Same height as the 31, just a little narrower than the 9.5's.

I'm fairly certain that the 7" wheel I'm using is a 0 offset (3.5 inch backspace). I'm not sure, but I think the stock rim was a 5.5 with the same 0 offset (2.25 inch backspace) and a 235/75R15 tire. That would make the standard tire size have a a sectional width of 8.9" on the stock rim. The sectional width of a 31x10.5 inch tire would be 9.9" if mounted on a 7" wheel (10.5 is on a 8.5" wheel).

Does an stock uncut have 1 inch to spare before it gets into the fender lip?

Going over to drop some parts off at a guy's shop that's building a sweet LUBR with 31x10.50's (I think?) on some standard 15x7 or 8 inch wheels and it seems to fit.
Of course, he has not driven it yet either, but the clearance looks good.

I'll get some shots of it and post up if any of the information I just gave seems legit.

I'm going to run a similar wheel with the 33x10.50 BFG A/T KO tires. I may just have the shop mount a tire both ways (whites on the outside & blackwall) so I can what it looks like before deciding.

* 33x9.50 was impossible to find, otherwise that would have been my preference.

Here's one with 2.5" suspension, 2" body lift, 31x10.50x15's on ProComp wheels in what I believe to be 15x8" size. He wasn't sure if they were 7's or 8's and the boxes are nowhere around. There are extra 1" lift blocks under the rear springs too I think.
It's going to be close, but it looks real good.

I have a 2.5" lift, and am running 32x11.5s with uncut fenders. The fender lips are rolled up on the rear though. They do "fit", but i do get some rubbing sometimes, mostly from the front, if i nail a large bump, at speed, while going through a corner. If you want zero rubbage, something around a 31 x10.5 would be the biggest id go.

Check out ghost66's ranger... 2-3" lift with 31x9.5 TSLs. It is also ginger. I prefer the 2.5" with a 30x9.5

X2. I ran 30 x 9.5 on my 76 and was really happy with 2.5" lift. Check out pics of the red one in my gallery.

Very nice look on the red one. That's the look I'm going for with the Ranger.

Thanks for all the input, 30x9.5's are what I'm going to use. I really like some of the bigger sizes, just not what I'm wanting for this build. What I'm going for is more of a subtle mix between modern/stock appearance on the exterior.

Thanks! Looks a little different now 2 owners down the road.

A LITTLE different? What a transition, it's not even close to the same truck! I like both of them though. I've become a fan of the uncut's though. When I built my half cab I wasn't.

The next one, my 71, I'm going to go crazy with it. It's in worse shape than the 67 was so it won't matter.
