I know this was about putting a third brake light above the spare or in it but what about using one of those led strips that goes between the tailgate and bumper. Just wondering as I noticed I can get them from one of my suppliers and if there's interest I will post in the vendor section not trying to hijack thread.

I don't think the whole strip is what most are looking for. At least I'm not. The point for me is for it to be a true "CHMSL" (center high mount stop lamp) and mounted up top.
If that's what you mean though, and think this strip (or at least part of it) is something that would be cool up there, post away. Show us a pic of what you mean if you have a detailed shot.

But if it's indeed one long light that spans the whole width of a full-size truck, then I don't think it would work in this application. And even if it would mount high on a Bronco top without being too wide, I don't think you'd want something up there that is so big as to create more of a distraction than a help.

Is that what you were talking about? Are they in one whole strip only, or can them be downsized to something more manageable?

I just removed my third light from my jeep to fit a 35 spare.

I don't really think a third light that high off the ground helps anything other than a semi truck driver. I'm going to add the receiver hitch light which plugs into towing connector for those low cars to see me.

I disagree. Mounting an auxiliary brake light higher than existing brake lights is the whole point. And the higher the better up to a point.
If you drive cars at all and for any great number of miles, you'll undoubtedly run across at least one time when a brake light in your line of sight through the back window of a van full of kids or over the top of the hood of a lifted 4wd truck will literally save the day. And your front bumper.
High Mounting is the whole point of the category.

Paul my point is, line of site for my jeep brake lights is 4.5 feet off the ground. My Third light is almost 5.5 feet high. Only vehicle seeing that is another jacked up truck. My threat is from being rear ended by the kid on a cellphone in Honda with a 3 foot line of sight, about my rear bumper and hitch light.

High mounting is the whole point back when cars where Pinto's and Accords.

This is kind of what I was thinking and yes I get the point of having one up high as like taipeichris set up but even he has some light down low in the bumper. The one I can get would be mounted down low not high have yet to muesure if it will fit there just thought I would ask. I can get it in a 48" strip which I think will fit and it has turn signals backup light and a brake light in one option and another with all that and a running light. Will post picks latter when I'm near my computer also have it in a 60" light for those that would want to buy one for their regular trucks. Sorry like I said not trying to hijack thread to hawk my products.

I understand your point of the mini van but I'm not worried about what's in front of me if I'm driving that close I deserve to hit them. I see a point in having one high and one lower if they are following me close and I'm driving mine or any lifted rig they are not going to see one mounted to high and yes I know that's where this thread started but I thought it was about safety and that's why having one high on some lifted rigs may not be the right way to go. Putting one in the middle of the spare might be more in line of sight and for those not running a rear spare putting one in the top of the tail gate flush mounted might be better.

One benefit of having them mounted high is so the car behind the one in back of you can see it. If the guy behind you isn't paying attention when your brake lights come on then the guy behind him can usually still see the higher light above the other car or through the glass. So, the guy behind you may still hit you but the guy behind him may not.

Good point viperwolf1 I have been in a multi car pile up in the front and it was a pain getting nail more than once. Everyone needs to learn how to leave more room or pull over if they are going to text. 73azbronco I will post pics when I get home have them saved on computer not my phone.

Sorry it took awhile to post a pic and it kind of small but it gives an idea of what it looks like in all its functions and here's a price list if there's interest I will post in my led buy in vendor section

The LED center mount lights actually help. They light up a 1/2 second sooner and it's noticeable

I was behind a fire truck the other day and their brake lights were LED and they blinked twice when they came on

Good way to catch your eye.
Anyone know where to get lights like that?

Yeah, but does that just flash them, or limit it to a single flash then solid? I wonder too, if that one is the type that is able to flash at a different rate depending on how hard you push the brakes? I didn't really see a description.
Didn't see anything in your second link at first, but that was just from impatience and not waiting for the sarcasm to come through. ;D Then I saw that the link actually was supposed to be for a specific product and went back. Waited longer that time and saw the slowwwww typing (might be my connection though) and results.

I was wondering too, if the fire truck type Roundhouse saw has the controller as a separate unit, or if it's in the lamp itself. "Assumed" separate at first, but you never know these days.
And I'd rather just discuss it here and hope someone else has taken the time to look it up so I don't have to search as far.%) Now I have to though. Gotta find that firetruck one!

Out here in the desert, with no trees and driving evening or mornings where the sun can be right on the horizon, having an extra stop light at a different level helps a lot. That's why I was asking. The jeep thing with it peeking over the spare seemed to be a neat idea.

Oh, as to the small cars rear-ending me, the bumper might need a spray can of black to fix while the Honda will be towed off to the scrap yard.

If anyone has a source for the jeep spare idea that was made to work on a Bronco (a universal-type mount) or a simple way to make this work...that's kinda what I was looking for. Maybe a Bronco vendor might be interested in coming up with something to sell?
