PCV for my 408

I have a newer 408 and am running a Sniper on it. It runs great and I am very happy with it. However when I flog on it I get a fair amount of oil on the valve covers then eventually a drip or two onto the headers. I just have a vent on each valve cover and not a pcv. I am thinking of running a catch can and tying each side into it. I prefer to get info and recommendations on here since it is the best source for information in the world. Please post your recommendations and or pics of your set up.

Thanks
B

Catch cans are your friend, (found that out the hard way) Keep a fire extinguisher handy......

Totally. Was going to order one this week. Even thinking about ordering one of those custom baffled vents someone linked to in another thread.

While a catch can (if needed) can definitely be your friend like Jon said, a working PCV system is definitely a good idea.
I think we've had this discussion before, but even if not, suffice it to say I'm a fan.

That was me Paul. Along with tall Summit Racing valve covers, I have a CFM Performance breather in the driver side cover, an ME Wagner PCV in the passenger side cover, and a Moroso air/oil separator bolted to the firewall. These components cleared up all of my oil consumption/leak issues. Thankfully I bought them all several years ago when the prices were more reasonable.

Thanks! Yeah, I should’ve bought one when I first discovered them three or four years ago too. At the time though I didn’t actually need one for myself.
Thought they might cure all the problems that everybody else was running into, but all the stock set ups worked just fine on my mostly stock engines.
With so many oddball buildups looming in my head though, I think one of those valves will serve me well over many future engines and different vehicles.

They haven’t really gone up all that much so far though, have they?
Almost afraid to look again!

A diagram will be nice. But it's all pretty visible there in that last pic too.
On the passenger side valve cover is the PCV valve.
Catch can mounted to the firewall with one hose to the valve and the other hose just visible in the back plumbed directly to engine vacuum at the back of the carburetor presumably.
Just visible behind the distributor is a simple K&N style filter in the driver's valve cover. Presumably in a typical low-profile oil fill cap with grommet.

Using the filtered breathers have one common issue of oil vapors building up and oozing out after awhile even with a fully functioning PCV valve. But with the extra baffling inside the filler cap it might not be a thing in Master Chief's install. Looks pretty clean from here anyway. But then so does everything else in that engine compartment too!

Thanks Paul. The plumbed hoses run from the PCV to the can and from the can to the front port on the carb, not the back one. Here is a pic of the baffled breather from CFM. It keeps the oil in the engine vice the fender, headers, and bottom of the hood like it used to do under heavy load (gas peddle to floor 😁)

Ah yes. I forgot we were talking about that but I got off on a tangent thinking about how you put oil in the engine. Do you just pull the vent out?
