Considering nv3550 swap

Seriously considering the nv3550 swap. Looking for any advice to avoid potential pitfalls in sourcing the transmission. Things to look for both good and bad? Appreciate any advice.

Given the relative scarcity and higher cost of the NV3550 versus a more or less comparable AX15, I wonder what makes you specifically want the NV? I have an NV4500 that I swapped into my '77 F150 decades ago and am thinking about moving into my EB, but if I didn't have the trans, I would go a variety of other ways to get a 5-speed transmission, and now after breaking my left ankle pretty badly, might go automatic anyway. I had the trans rebuilt to fix the OD issue a long time ago but still get some rattle in 5th...it's always shifted and driven well, but made more noise than I would like.

Or have you considered the Mazda M5OD-R2?

Probably haven’t totally done my due diligence on all the options. I just like what seemed to be the overall “simplicity” of the conversion, transmission size/weight, center tunnel shifter position, low ish first gear for potential trail use. I haven’t looked into many other options. Marschariot writeup in the tech articles was very detailed and made a compelling argument for the nv3560. Definitely open to other options. Mainly looking for something I can try to tackle myself in a limited space garage.

How does the ax-15 swap differ from the 3550? Does the crossmember come into play with that conversion. I will look into the Mazda option as well to see what it’s all about. I really appreciate the information on other options before jumping in, and finding the nv3550 and price are a concern.
