Converting from manual to power steering on a 66 bronco (Roller frame now).Other than the obvious steering box change ,pitman arm and adding and pulley(s) , belt , hoses and a ps pump are there any other items needed to change for this swap?
Pitman arm doesn't need to change. The manual arm works just fine on the power box. You'll need to modify or replace the long single piece steering shaft. You'll need to shorten it as well as add a different joint as the manual and power boxes have different size input shafts.
If you still have the '66 pitman arm and steering linkage, the drag link and pitman need to be swapped together. The '66 pitman is one of the unique 1966 items.
This would be a good time to change the one piece steering shaft to a collapsible lower shaft with "u" joints. I used a Borgeson when I converted mine.
Mark.
Get a 4 turn ps box, you may already be planning for that. I found my 4 turn box on ebay if I remember correctly and should have done the Borgenson shaft at that time but that is on my to do list. I ended up using the old style Thompson pump I got with the brackets because at that time I was having trouble finding 250 ps parts. It is fine but plan to change to the Saginaw pump and appropriate bracket. The 250 ps bracket is different than the 170/200. As you will be using a 170/200 you can see the links below for some options to get brackets and a Saginaw pump if you want. PS makes Bronco driving nice.
