Accelerator/Throttle Cable for Explorer EFI (no egr elbow) Anyone Using the Lokar Eliminator Gas Pedal 14 Dec

Interested in what combo others are currently running. I have two throttle cable kits, one from BC and the other from WH. Are there better options now?

Not what you want to hear... I like using Factory parts.

I used a foxbody mustang cable and mounting bracket. You have to use the Mustang EGR spacer or aftermarket block off spacer, as it has the holes for mounting the Mustang cable bracket. Of course you have have to transfer the throw arm from a mustang or other Ford application Throttle body to the Explorer 65mm TB. Yeah it is a little work, but just buying a 65mm TB from Ford racing has long since passed. (I think aftermarket TB suck, unless you pay the $$$.)

I make a bracket that I weld to the Bronco accel peddle that I found on a 70's full sized Ford in the Wreaking yard years ago that had Cruise control.

For me, having a history with Fox body mustangs, there was take off parts that I ratholed away, so I didn't have to run to the Wreaking yard. I can post more pictures later if there is interest...

My gas pedal arm mod is even simpler. Heat the top of the arm cherry red, twist it 90 degrees with a pair of pliers. Drill the hole out to fit the plastic bushing on the cable (5/16" I think but it's been awhile) then cut a slot in the top with a hacksaw for the cable.
I've had the business end of the cable connected to a few throttle bodies over the years, mostly to an Explorer throttle body that I adapted a probably impossible to find now foxbody Mustang t/b arm onto, 25 years ago. More recently an Accufab throttle body made to fit a foxbody intake, using an Accufab throttle cable bracket/spacer.
Downside of all that is I believe replacement foxbody throttle cables no longer exist in the wild.

Believe me, I understand...

Working on this Bronco from Hell project, I finally get the Trans/T-case bolted up, go on a test drive and the offshore, owner installed replacement EFI distributor - gear shear pin fails on the drive. (Reported that it is 2 months old, with maybe a couple of hundred miles on it) I had to have it towed home... Napa - a rebuilt unit is a week out, Ford - Obsolete, O'Reilly's is a day away but off shore. So I had to dig into my spare parts bin for a mustang EFI distributor. Surprisingly the Napa, Cap/rotor/ ign module was all made in the US. Back on the road in a few hours...

Lar's I seem to remember you had also modified the peddle to provide better control, instead of the on/off feeling when in low?
I ran your method for years and on the street it was fine but when offroad it was twitchy.

I have search a few threads and I have found some great info in the process. I found a few pics that I saved, but I don't know where I saved them from ;D. I'm specifically looking for pics and ideas on how to adapt the Explorer throttle cable to the throttle body with it mounted directly to...

Foxbody throttle cables were getting difficult to find. Most dismantlers are too lazy to remove them, so they end up cut off. I have been hoarding them for years.

...but The aftermarket is your friend.

LMR now sells the 86-93 Fox Mustang throttle cable for about $50. It's not as good as the factory one, because the spring is different...but it certainly will fit. They also sell the cable to EGR plate bracket. It's also "good enough."

My gas pedal arm mod is similar to yours. But even more simpler? Put the throttle pedal arm into a vice. Get ready to heat the arm cherry red. Realize that you have no acetylene in your bottle, so twist the arm 90 degrees with a big Crescent wrench cold. Admire your work.

Bwaaahh hahahaha!!!

I have two medium-ish acetylene bottles, one of which occasionally has enough contents in it to do what I want.

Not sure, i bought it from him during the original post. sounds like he may have moved on? Always a bummer when we lose some good ideas/parts like this.

I bought One of his brackets, need to find some guidance on install.read too many threads, they are all running together. I am trying to find the thread on the floor mount Lokar pedal also. Read it a couple of nights ago, but search brings me nothing.

Friend Tim is running one of those on his '73 with Explorer EFI setup. Hmm, or is his a Mustang upper? Now I have to go look for pics!
Anyway, he likes it and I've driven it too. Has a nice feel.
