I’ve done a search
And not getting a positive answer to my question so I thought I’d ask it specificslly

I’m installing a 94 f150 4r70 in my 66. I’m running the the 94 block from the same truck but with 99 explorer efi. When we mated the 4r to the motor there was approximately 6 threads of the torque convertor studs sticking through the flexplate ( bellhousing fully pulled up the block) checked to be sure there was zero bind anywhere and started to put the serrated nuts on the two studs. The tc pulled up the the flexplate about a 1/4”. Does this sound right? I called my trans guy and asked him and he said it was normal.
I just don’t remember my
C4 pulling up this much
Before the tc bottomed out against the flexplate.

When I put this thing together, I’m pretty positive I used the 94 flexplate from my donor truck because I had to get a new tc with 11” stud pattern. My original c4 tq had the 10” pattern.

Torque convertor quarter inch air gap before the nuts are put on, that sounds about right. I thought it was a little less, but never actually measured. I know there is a small gap when everything is right.

Thanks! I didn’t actually measure it either, I’m just kinda estimating. I may take the nuts back off and get a good measurement on how much it pulled up

1/4" is at least double what is normal. Post up an accurate # and I'll try to look up what is designed into my adapter after much research.

I should have also posted that a billet converter takes less clearence then a stock converter- especially when running some power through it.

Stock converters can balloon some and tighten that clearance up and then pump problems can occur
