I’d really like to see some pics underneath. I’m trying to figure out how to route my rear exhaust next to the tank and out behind the rear tire. The problem I’m seeing is the bracket on the tank rock guard gets in the way of the exhaust routing. I have 2 1/2” SS exhaust pipes which make it more difficult. I’d also like to see additional pics of the entire exhaust run from Transfer case to the exhaust tips.

Thanks

no way around it is what i found in my search. you'll have to tweak that last section of the tailpipe or mount the j hooks a little different. I've seen pics where someone bent the gas tank skid plate mount and mounted the j hook in a more vertical position. They drilled a hole into the bottom of the frame and mount the j hook thru that vs the side of the frame.

Here’s the bracket I might use in place of drivers side j bolt ,, will make more changes to tailpipe first but here’s a pic

WPS, shorten the height of the angle pc that the J bolt attaches to (cut and weld) and increase the amount it sticks out towards the leaf springs. Cut about where that red line is for ht but make the leg stick out towards the leaf springs more giving that J bolt 3/4" more clearance on both sides.

This will allow you more room for the exhaust because those two pcs that are almost an interference fit now will have more room on two sides.

EPB72….looks like you have the 65 degree exit rear pipe. Mine is 90. Due to the j-bolt, I cant’ get the angle to work out right and have the exit pipe at the right location. Thanks for the pics.

My plan is to eliminate the J-bolt by welding on a 1/4” x 3” wide flat bar that will be a total length of 29” to the bottom of the rock guard. This will create a 2.5” bracket over hang on each side of the rock guard. I will add an L-bracket that mounts on the frame where the J-bolt hooks to the frame. The L-bracket and the flat bar will be connected via a jack bolt to raise the tank and secure. This will provide plenty of clearance. Here’s my cad drawing of the plate/L-bracket and jack bolt. Hope it helps.

Rethinking my plan, going to nvrstuk’s idea. I’ve got a couple 1/4” l brackets that i can weld to the side, replacing the existing brackets. The j bolt doesn’t want to hang straight down. That can be corrected by cutting a small amount off the tip of the j as noted in the pic.

I had the same issue. I just cut the m1a1 skid plate brackets off. I welded 2 on each side that were basically L shape and runs tight to the tank and then turns out. I drilled holes for bolts and just bolted it to the bottom of the frame. If you want I can email you some photos.
