Rebuilding my transfer case in a couple months and read a few threads on recommend oils and what I found is either 50w oil or 75w-90 gear oil. Any problem running this 80w-90? That’s what Yukon recommends for my LS diff and would be nice to keep it simple.

Thanks

GL-5 may not play well with bronze thrust washers in D-20 transfer case?

SPECIFICATIONS, APPROVALS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Meets or exceeds API GL-5, API MT-1, SAE J2360, MIL-PRF-2105E, MACK GO-J, PG-2 Limited Slip.

You’re right! I called Lucas to double check and it could harm the brass. Out to find some 50w or straight 75w-90. Thanks Oldtimer!

The transmission on my motorcycle has gone through various oils. Currently filled with 0W10 engine oil. Run several years that way.
The farmers here are probably laughing. The Kubota I had was filled with universal oil. It ran through the manual transmission and all the hydraulics as well. You buy it 5 gallons at a time.
Special oils don't really matter until you are running on the ragged edge.
