4R70W Overdrive

I installed a 4R70W in my 74 with a Baumenator shift module. The Bronco has been sitting FAR to long and I want it back on the road before it becoes another barn Find. What do I need to do( parts etc) to hook up the overdrive? Thank You in Advance

Overdrive doesn’t require any extra parts with a 4R70W since everything is controlled electronically by the Baumann unit. If you want to be able to turn OD on and off, you’ll just need a momentary switch and some 18g wire.

Exactly what rocknhorse said... to refresh all the cool stuff the Baumann controller (US Shift) can do and how simple it is to operate, try going to their site and reading the install/overview again to freshen up. Takes me about a day to forget stuff so here ya go...

Really depends on what is not hooked up now? Overdrive is part of the transmission, not an add on. So for any shifts to happen, you will have overdrive also. If it isn't powered up, hooked up, etc, all you get is 2nd gear (with no engine braking) and reverse. Those are the fail safe mechanically selected gears.

Since you stated it has the Baumanator in it, you may not have an old enough laptop to connect to it. You may need a USB to Serial adaptor. Since those were programmed via the serial port. That's about the only hardware that may be needed now.

Can always start with the basics. Is everything plugged in? Does the light come on when powered? Does it have power? Have mice eaten the harness? Was it ever hooked up in the first place?

Thank You, I knew the 4R70W had an OD, I thought I had to splice a on/off switch into the Brown wire on the 4 pin wire harness

You still have to connect to a throttle position sensor. there is an orange, green and black wire coming from the vehicle connector that connects to the TPS.

You will need a TPS, and yes the momentary switch is optional. Sorry, I guess I just assumed you had EFI.

You still have to connect to a throttle position sensor. there is an orange, green and black wire coming from the vehicle connector that connects to the TPS.

I rewired it with a Centech harness , I will look into the wiring. Thank You

Those 3 wires and a TPS are pretty easy for a carb. US Shift actually sells adapters to mount their TPS's on a Holley now. I made one for a Qjet back then, they'd never seen someone adapt one to the Qjet... sure it had been done but I sent them pics.

Check out that link I sent as it will help you make sure you didn't skip any steps for wiring it up. If you follow it step by step it will fire right up w/o any issues. Download one of their basic tunes so you don't have to do anything other than make sure it works. Then if you want you can dial in tranny characteristics you want.
