Got the motor back in my 1969 project. The exhaust system is all original including the 56 year old muffler that is perfect condition. No rust no holes, this Bronco had many original parts shocks, spark plugs to name a couple. It has 62000 original miles. Been sitting for many years.
So do I use the quiet original muffler or go with something with s little more sound. The original is about 3 1/2 feet long and very quiet.

Thoughts???

Exhaust is so personal... 100% your call.

IF you like riding in an EV stay with the stock muffler. Want a little rumble go with something other than a Flowmaster unless you get at LEAST the 50 series to cut the drone that they are so well known for. I love a good dual exhaust with a rowdy cam but literally hate not being able to talk when driving.

More cubes equals more noise
Rowdier cam equals more noise
Larger dia exhaust tubing equals more noise
Dual exhaust usually equals more noise
More rpm equals more noise.
A shorter bodied muffler usually equals more noise
More horsepower equals more noise

Stock 302 isn't going to get to noisy on ya but you almost need to listen to a dozen 302's with different mufflers and tubing and crossover or no crossovers etc to "see" what you like.

On a side note, and I hate to start sounding like a Mustang parts hoarder, but that stock original perfect shape low mileage exhaust system is probably worth $1000 to somebody who’s trying to do a full original restoration on their bronco.
That’ll get you a lot of aftermarket exhaust.

I've put Duff aluminized 2.25" duals with their Turbo mufflers on my 'stock '69 302 with cast iron manifolds. Was less than $700 shipped. Fits pretty nicely, sounds pretty good without being too loud. Don't know if it will drone yet, I'm still a long ways off from actually driving this thing. But it's not a bad choice, especially if you can keep that stock system intact for later or to sell.

Well this ones condition shocked me , it doesn't even have any dents, zero rust it's perfect condition if someone is interested in it 250.00 and they own it.

(NEITHER WIFE OR I CAN HEAR ANYONE ANYMORE)

Larger dia exhaust tubing equals more noise. ✅ (2 1/2” collectors)
Dual exhaust usually equals more noise. ✅
More rpm equals more noise. ✅ (sometimes around 4,000 RPM)
A shorter bodied muffler usually equals more noise. ✅. (OPEN HEADERS FOR NOW)
More horsepower equals more noise. ✅. (WAS TOLD AROUND 450 HP)
I think I’ve got this all in hand…for now. 🤣

As nvrstuk stated, exhaust tone is 100% personal choice, but since you asked...Flowmasters to me are a big no, hated since the 90's when every fox body had them...I'm partial to the summit brand turbo mufflers(step and half above stock sound) or their brand steel casing mufflers (fairly quiet at idle, tolerable at highway speeds, can get rowdy with the right engine combo).
I bought a Duff's kit back in the late 90's, their long tube header kit, 2.25 size. It fit great, hated the Turbo mufflers it came with, ditched those for the Summit welded mufflers and it was perfect for me.
