I wound up flipping the mounting plate. It sits in the frame fine now. But I need to figure out if it’s correct. I’ll do some research. Doesn’t explain the alignment tho. Unless I have the crossmember in backwards as wellFirst of all, you appear to have run into the original problems that everybody seems to have had with the Explorer front serpentine accessory drive system. That’s the lower idler pulley hitting the frame crossmember.
It also appears that you’re running into the same problem that half the people installing an NV 3550 with an Advance Adapters kit ran into with the crossmember lining up.
The two most common solutions for #1 were, originally to notch out that section of frame, but later to replace that with a smaller pulley.
If you already have the smaller pulley, then perhaps your rear crossmember is, in fact, holding things too high. Hard to say, and as Steve said, some wider angle shots would help. Is that the NV3550/AX15 Mount? Or is that an automatic?
Some different ways of possibly fixing the alignment. But it’s hard to tell if you have it higher or low until the body is installed. The other problem we always seem to have is with the valve cover hitting the firewall. So you can’t lean it too far forward and can’t lean it too far back.
Lucky you!![]()
I’ll push it outside tomorrow or so and get pictures. Tiny garage. All your pics are so close-up that it's hard to tell what some of them show. You should add several pics from farther back so we can put everything into perspective/context. Your last pic seems to show several non-stock parts, so: 1) fill in your signature with ALL the truck's details so you don't have to remember to describe it fully with each thread/post/question; and 2) read the part manufacturer's instructions, & post a link so we can read them.
1stWhat was your last actual issue? The side side alignment of the bolt holes? Was it just a matter of loosening the motor mounts and twisting things a bit more?
Thanks for the video and follow up. Just wanna make sure I understand all the details.
I did. That’s how I was able to put it together. I think I remember reading that most didn’t need to notch the frame. I’m already painted and really didn’t want to do that. As of now I have plenty of clearance after figuring out that I had that plate on upside downDid you see the write up in the tech section for explorer front dress?
We call it user errorShocker, it was ignorance
Thanks to all that helped
Centered as in it measures the same distance at the front of the motor as the back of the motor to the either corner of each spring tower. Or parallel with the frame.Couple of thoughts...
You do know the engine is not supposed to be centered in the chassis? It is intentionally offset tot he passenger side by about 2". This offsets the transmission and transfer case as well. Nothing is supposed to be centered. Everything is slightly passenger side. Not sure about the crossmember, never used that one, but I suspect the mounting holes are offset as well. And if it is flipped around, the offset would be on the wrong side. There is a lot of wiggle room on the motor mount slots, even to put some twist in it, but not that much.
The other is I would still look for the small pulley if you don't already have it. You have clearance, a little more would be nice if you can easily get it.
