I just got one the same way a couple of weeks ago, just like the one before that, and every Atlas case I've had delivered. that is the the way Advanced Adapters ships gearcases. It's a PITA to deal with the urethane foam, but we have never had any damage.

What lube do you have in it now?

If by "finger length" you mean shift-forks, I have swapped several tall/short tops on NP435s and never known, of or experienced any issues...

In my humble opinion a full synthetic is a mistake.... I used to manage a fleet of trucks, the new guys would always be issued the old trucks (90s Ford 300ci W/200K+ miles) before they were sold. Invariably, when one of them would report low pressure or oil leaks, I would look at the Jiffy-lube...

If you want the crossmember to be below the case, you can get creative.....

Unless you have a high pinion front axle, (even then) I would be way more concerned with driveline U-joint angle at the front pinion! That is why the the yolk is under the crossmember in most applications. Have you cycled your front suspension with a driveline installed?

Regardless, you still have to set it up with the correct shims.... just because you took them out doesn't mean you will put them back and have it to spec....
