1970 Build - For the Next Gen

There were a few small details that we needed to finish to take it for a spin. My son graduated and is off to school and working full time. So much for getting this done for him to drive in school. With him not around to help things have gone a little slower. My daughter stepped up and made...

    UT 1972 (uncut) U14 Pickup

I'm looking for a foundation like this to build a daily driver with. I also need a cluster refurbished. Shoot me a PM when you have some time to show it to me.

why did the striker post rust here

I had one that was similar. It actually looked almost exactly the same before I put the wire wheel to it. I think it's more from water running down from a leaking top than anything else. You can defintely patch it easier than replacing the whole post.

Which brand AN fittings and hoses?

Don't underestimate the pressure that a good power steering setup will generate. When I did my first hydroboost conversion I used the standard high pressure rubber hose with the stainless jacket and the aluminum fittings that Aeroquip, Earls, etc sells. The hose can take the pressure but the...

Pulling Codes The moment of truth for the wiring was just about an hour ago. I pulled out my trusty old code reader and did a KOEO test. The first run through dropped 12 trouble codes. After I looked them all up it turned out that seven of them were transmission codes. I found another loose...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

I had to rework the satellite radio mount to get the wiring into it like I had planned. I had to burn the powder coat off and start over. I was able to get the wiring in like planned and even got a signal when I hooked up the stereo. By the end of the day today I had the cage back in and had...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Fixing the blinker short eliminated the 6 volt readings at the column and the world suddenly got better. The headlights worked as soon as the ground was fixed. The transmission connector on the shifter was loose. As soon as that was plugged in the starter would bump and the back-up lights...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Wiring Tests - Its Been a Long Weekend I finished up the last few wire connections on Saturday morning and hooked the battery up. It was disappointing to say the least. Only one of the front marker lights would come on and only the other would blink. Neither headlight would work, the starter...

    License Plate Light

The license plate light is tied into the park light circuit from the headlight switch. It's been a long time since I worked through a stock harness but I believe it branches off of the park light wire between the left and right tail lights. It should come through a small hole in the bottom of...

    Better stopping

If I were to choose an order I would also go with hydroboost first and rear disks later. I choose rear disks due to an ice build up/lock up problem with drums many years ago that led to a roll over and 10 mile walk in the snow. Frankly, disks are self cleaning and therefore give me peace of...

A New Toy Put to Use We got a small plasma cutter. Just the thing to finish up a front bumper. I tried to go simple here so I hope it works out.

Some Fabrications It's probably obvious that these pictures are from a few months of time. We had to fab a few pieces along the way. We needed a license plate mount with a light since our gas cans cover up the stock one. We also couldn't find a washer fluid tank that would fit anywhere we...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Heater and Wiper Motor I used a heater blower motor from a '93 F250. The plastic blower wheel you see here disintegrated when I test ran it so I went with a metal replacement from NAPA for the same truck. It took some work but I was able to get the motor and wheel to clear everything inside...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Another Restart I finally got some motivation to start again. The wiring is close to done. Here are a few shots of it along the way. I'm hoping to heat the system up this weekend and at least check everything that doesn't require an engine start. I'm still short one completed radiator so I...

    roll cage car stereo

We built this into our project. We haven't powered them up yet so I can't say how thespeakers sound yet but they look pretty good. You could make something like this and add a space for the head unit.

What Insurance Company do you use?!

I use GEICO and its dirt cheap, but its only liability. If you want full coverage that pays out more that book value you are going to have to pay big bucks.

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Not too much to show today. The wiring is almost complete in the engine compartment. It kind of loks like an octopus in a few spots but that should get fixed after we get the final loom in place. There is a shot of the aux fuse box for the engine compartment that will hold the relays for the...

Happy New Year to you too. BTW, another house down the street just became available, just in case you still want to move out here and work on this wiring. Better yet, you can do some body work ;D Your rig is looking top notch. I can't wait to see the paint on it.
