i second the Chiltons manual.

I'm a fan of my 3 on the tree behind a 289. Don’t care for the bad synchronizer for 1st gear. Can’t get in a hurry taking off from a stop, or it will pop out of gear. It’s also an anti theft device. I rebuilt the column 20 years ago, still shifts smooth.

They all bleed a little. ;) OP said he poured in 5 qts of oil, then 1 qt of oil stabilizer. What’s the reading on the dipstick? I thought the SBF had a total capacity of 5 qts Using a standard oil pan. as for the valve cover leak, I’ve tried every gasket made, no gasket just sealant, different...

Where can I find a diagram of where pills are located in a J shift case? I have one that before it was removed would pop out of 4 low quite often. It was twin stIcked. Was told it probably needed the pills and springs replaced.

Shoulda made those flares flat, for a place to set a beer. I think they are fugly.

When I changed to 33’s from 31’s and 3:50 gearing, it was a noticeable difference. Then I re geared to 4:11, I got my power back.

If you wanted to buy a new stock TC, who sells them?

If you have a metal line going from fuel pump to carb, insulate it. Get some spark plug wire insulation. That’s what I used on my stainless steel line.

Billie Bilt makes a nice 8274 specific bumper.

The column I bought from WH a few years ago came with a GM style connector setup. It’s not that difficult to adapt to your existing harness. Buy the complete kit, it will save time and effort. Especially when you convert from rag joint to slip shaft.

Just clean them up and reuse. Apply a little anti seize before re installing.

Have you tried running 93 octane fuel to eliminate the pinging with more advance? Also, change the springs in distributor so timing doesn’t come in too fast?
