    Mini Starter

Looks like starter shims are available on Amazon if the local auto parts store doesn’t carry them.

    H4 Headlights

The parts guy told me he thought it was just one headlamp. I guess for the price they don’t believe it could possibly be more than just one headlamp. Picked up mine today. I already have an upgraded lighting harness (I think from WH) with relays and fuses. Wondering if I can just install the...

Axle shims and gear oil level

Finally got around to installing 6* axle shims and in true Bronco fashion it led to something else. Noticed that the drivers side axle seal was leaking. Coincidence or luck but it must have just started. Installed shims, replaced the seal and added gear oil. It took quite a bit of additional...

    1977 Power steering box leaking,

There is a company in Apache Junction called Minh Worx Steering 480-270-0388. Someone had listed them on another post about a steering box. This guy worked at the other shop in Phoenix or something like that. Has a Facebook page.

    OER New PS Box

Good to hear some feedback on the Lares box. The Lares is a 4 turn box correct? Do you like that better than the 6 turn box?

    OER New PS Box

I’ve been looking at PS box options too, and wondering if the Lares box (lifetime warranty) or the Borgeson (a little more expensive) and now this box would be a good option. Would one of these new boxes be a better option than having a 50 year old box rebuilt? How do these stack up to the boxes...

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

I used a wiring diagram very similar to that (no relay) when I installed the module quite some time ago. Just fired it up after sitting overnight and all day. One pump of the gas and a blip of the key and it was running. I don’t think that I would have thought to switch those wires so thanks...

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

EPB72 - I think you have the answer. I made a jumper to swap the G and W connections at the GM HEI module and seems to be running much better. I have the timing set to 14 BTDC. Idling at +/- 700. Can rev the motor with the vacuum advance connected to ported vacuum. Haven’t road tested it yet.

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

Broncobowsher - ohm’d the spark plug wires. Lowest reading was 1.0 k and highest was 1.4k. The coil wire was higher at 7.4k. My coil wire is about 30” long since I have the coil mounted on the inner fender.

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

Gr8scott - I’ve been referencing a wiring diagram titled Wiring Diagram for the Ignition, starting, charging systems and gauges - 1970 Bronco.

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

Broncobowsher - the ground/(-) from the distributor is attached to the bolt securing the module to the heat sink. The heat sink is screwed to the inner fender. I’ll need to ohm out the wires but they are relatively new 8mm wires. The HB does have 3 sets of timing marks. I added a new timing...

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

Nvrstuk - the timing chain and gears were changed about a year ago. The bronco had been running reasonably well but not great. The timing marks on the cam gear and crank gear were lined up. Guess I’ll try to clean up those plugs and reinstall.

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

My plugs, 5 of the 8 are black. #1 reddish, brown, #4 and #7 are clean. These are new Autolite AP45’s. It’s a new timing chain and damper. I’ve checked TDC again and it’s right on zero.

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

The module is mounted on an aluminum heat sink that came out of an old speaker or computer. Also used thermal transfer compound between the module and heat sink. Similar to gr8scott setup. I need to clean up and color code my wiring once I get things figured out. Revs good without the vacuum...

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

I am getting power from the green with red stripe wire. It comes from one of the two larger 8 pin connectors at the firewall. It’s not coming from the flat red 3 pin connector. Brain block, should have said resistor wire. Larger outside diameter, dirty pinkish color. It is the GM 4 pin module...

    Carb, Ignition, Timing Issue?

Thanks for your reply. It is a blue grommet module. I thought that the module could take full voltage but the factory coil that was originally used required the reduced voltage. Power is coming from the green with red stripe wire from the ignition switch. I am spliced into that wire after the...
