302 Manual Adjusting Timing after Replacing Points

I just replaced the points and am learning how to properly set base and total timing. I did not remove my distributer when changing the points and used a feeler gauge to gap, I believe it was about .021. Since my dwell changed as a result I would assume timing will be a bit off from before. I am...

I love my hardtop but damn it’s noisy

Replacing the lift gate weather stripping, weather stripping on the window frame and the quarters helped a lot in terms of noise. Do you have an older style hardtop with the anti-theft bar? I noticed rattling at this point. A few adjustments and the new weather strip stopped this. Also, the...

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

I changed out the points and we are back in business! Lesson learned, my first time working with points. Easy and fun process to learn. Thank you for your help...fuel system either way is higher on the priority list to upgrade.

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

Great, thank you. First thing I am going to do is check the functionality of my coil and points. For the coil, I will set up an apparatus to determine if it is providing interrupted grounds. I will then check the dwell and condition of the points/condenser. Seems a straight forward process...

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

I am asking for troubleshooting steps...so this was a great tip, thank you. I have read when blowing air back, you can put a rubber glove on the fill and if it inflates you know you do not have a clog. Or, you listen for air hitting the tank.

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

Are you able to tell from my photo if this is a two way cap? I have a lot of pressure build up when I pop the cap off. I might have to add a canister or some sort of system to take care of the smell. I do have the oval punch out, drivers side! I was wondering what that was. It has a rubber...

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

Should I be using a two-way vented gas cap since I do not have a charcoal canister system?

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

Your recommend filter location makes sense to me with a tweak, one before the T valve from the main and one before the T Valve from the aux tank this way all fuel moving up the chain to the pump gets filtered. I was thinking the same thing, having the aux tank is a great back-up. If the...

70 Bronco 302 - Fuel System Trouble Shooting

Hi Everyone, I bought my Bronco back in March of this year and am diving in as the second owner. She is an East Coast survivor, all original, and I have adopted the philosophy of fixing/replacing only if it is broken or beyond refurbishment. As a result, I have not touched the fuel system. This...

70 Bronco 302 - Oil Blow Back? Piston Ring Replacement?

Paul, I hate to make this post more complicated than it already is; my Bronco is now running pretty poorly and I am assuming it has to do with the fuel system. First, let me reply to your comments in the previous reply... 1. I am going to try a wet test after the Holidays. Compression & leak...

70 Bronco 302 - Oil Blow Back? Piston Ring Replacement?

Hi Paul, I am the second owner and not sure how long it sat. It has driven frequently enough by me that sitting would not be an issue since my purchase in March. Done both Wet and Dry?: I believe only dry, I am going to try and run the test again this week with my buddy who is a mechanic. Can...

Weather Seals - Lift Gate to Tailgate Seal Installation - 70 Bronco

Hi Everyone, I just finished replacing the following weather seals in preparation for Winter: Quarter Panels, Windshield Upper Frame, and the Lift Gate to Tailgate. I used 3M Black Weather Strip adhesive (highly recommend, very tacky and works great), plastic push pins from Tom's Offroad and...

70 Bronco 302 - Oil Blow Back? Piston Ring Replacement?

Thanks for the feedback. Definitively, what would worn/blown piston rings/valve seal symptoms look like? I am trying to gauge my overall engine health as I move deeper into the restoration process.
