Broken any of these lately ?

I have worked on a competition rock crawler and we had to use the cromemoly axels other wise the axle yoke would brake. The CTM's are the strongest out there right now and a regular axle will not hold up. If you are running a Atlas or twin stick when you engage the front end to do a tight turn...

Broken any of these lately ?

I just closer to your pic and noticed that it was the axle that failed. If the u-joint fails then one or more of the trunion will be broken off. That did not happen in the pic. I have never used one of the Napa u-joints so I can not say how good or bad they are. I brother says he has used them...

Broken any of these lately ?

If you do not wont to go with CTM u-joints then use a Spicer 5-760X. It is a new u-joint from Spicer to replace the 5-297X. The article is in Petersen's 4wheel mag(Dec. issue). It says the u-joints are "10 times more durable".Plus the cost is supposed to be 20 dollars. Not bad at all. They will...

    Power steering conversion

I do not know if they are able to swap parts. Try and call Howe Performance(619-561-7764). They built my steering using a scout box, corvette pump and it works awesome. If I was going to do it over though I would use ram assist from Jeff.

    Ch*vy disc:new backing plates?

I used to live in SD until Aug. The place I went to was Pick Your Part. It is near the border. To far for you to make it worth your while. I had the time to look for them while I was working on my bronco. My build up took me 2 1/2 years before I got to drive it. Now I have plans for all sorts of...

    Ch*vy disc:new backing plates?

When I did the disc conversion I just grabbed all the parts at the junk yard. The backing plates were a little rusted but I just sanded them and painted black. Now they are as good as new.

    Sloppy Steering Help

Also check your tie rod ends and the drag link comming down from the pitman arm. Play or worn out ends can give you sloppy steering also.PS is the way to go if it needs to be replaced.
My0.02$

    9 Inch Axles

T rue a 28 spline axle will work other wise Ford would not have made them. I was just putting my two cents in from my experience. It all depends on the terrain you wheel in. If it is mostly mud and dirt than they (28spline) do just fine. If it is rock crawling then you need heavy duty axles...

Chevy disk using the Knuckles too??

Yes you can use the chevy knuckle. I have it on mine.
You do not need to get the axles cut down. You use the stock inner and chevy outter. What I did with the steering was drill the knuckle with the same pattern as drivers side. I was not able to put tie rod on top though. The angle of the drag...

    9 Inch Axles

If your rig is just a toy then go with a currie extream duty housing, nodular case,BB,spool,35 spline, full floater. Cost is hi but in my book it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I put it in my bronco. Plus it will be nice if I flat tow.
