    A9M with Trouble Code 18

I realized that I never closed thread out, but I did eventually solve the problem. It is a long story, including repairing the old computer, swapping computers back and forth a few times, changing plugs, changing plug wires, confirming grounds, adding grounds, etc., etc. I finally checked all...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

I will take a look at the injector connections. I don't have anything to lose from that. I pulled all of the plugs last night and tested all of the plug wires. There weren't any obvious signs of a bad cylinder from the plugs and all of the wires tested good. I put it all back together and...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

Well, it wasn't a more permanent fix. I chased the problem for a few more weeks and then stopped for the winter. In the end I finally pulled the computer and opened it up. It did indeed have a failed capacitor. I have a fresh rebuild in now and will repair the old computer myself this...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

I wanted to close this out. I finally just bought a new EFI harness and went through the whole install again. The problem is gone. I still have a few minor issues but I think it is all timing and plug wire related. The problem is clearly in the harness somewhere. Someday, when I have lots...

My code reader will run the cylinder balance test. That one is easy. It doesn't miss at idle though. Most of the time it happens at a steady cruise and almost never under heavy acceleration. At least it starts every time now. That makes diagnosis much easier. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

No new codes, still just the normal emission codes and the 18 for the SPOUT. Random when it does it but I don't know which cylinder. Maybe it's time to buy a monitor recorder to see which one(s) is/are failing. I put new plug wires on. The only set I could find were from autozone and they...

Same computer. Thats one item I don't have a spare to swap out.

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

Well... The success was short lived. The engine ran flawlessly the first night after we got the timing set correctly. Now it has a random miss. It doesn't seem to be tied to acceleration or load changes, it is truly random. Everything on it is new now, including the SPOUT wire. Anyone have...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

I have had so many problems helping friends with those aftermarket kits that I have sworn them off in all situations except where a factory setup is nonexistent (like a '36 Buick with 455 project that I have in the queue, that one might end up with a Sniper). I have found that it's the same...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

I pulled the entire EFI harness and found that the whole bundle of wires along the back side of the intake manifold had gotten so hot that they all melted together. Most of the wires were okay but the insulation on all of them was fused together. It took two of us 2 hours to separate the wires...

The SPOUT goes direct from the computer to the dizzy, I know that much. I have an older RJM harness and it looks like the harness has been rubbing on the back of the passenger side valve cover for the last 16 years. I'm pretty confident that the problem is right there. I need to get it...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

Thanks for all of the replies and input. I thought I would give an update and let you know what I think is the solution. The short story is that the SPOUT wire has a partial short to ground that is causing random stall and no start issues. I literally chased all of the suggestions listed here...

    A9M with Trouble Code 18

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I posted here. Other life issues have drug me away from my Broncos for a few years. Forgive me if this is in the old threads somewhere, I had a hard time with the search function on the new forum. I have recently had a random stall/no start problem on...

    6 cylinder with NP 435

I have a friend that put a NP435 in his '66 with the I6. It's been a while (a long while). I don't recall there being any bellhousing problems at all. I think you are correct that the drivelines needed adjusted. I remember that we needed to fabricate a new transmission support after the...

    Poor Braking; Wrong Prop Valve?

I struggled with similar issues on mine for years. Stock '76 front brakes with explorer rears and 35's. I took it to a couple of shops that were known for good work on older vehicles. I changed my master a couple of times and even rebuilt my hydrobooster, Nothing ever seemed to fix the...

    Set 20 Bearing Variants?

Amazingly, I remembered to put the inner seals in both sides. As usual, I had to take the first side apart a few times to get everything working correctly. The bottom line is that the explorer brakes work well with the stock axles but the brake offset is slightly shallower than the explorer...

    Set 20 Bearing Variants?

No, the caliper mount is quite a bit thicker than the stock brake backing plate and this ring is thick enough to allow the axle retaining plate to apply the correct preload to the tapered roller bearings. In the case of the sealed bearing it takes up the extra space so the bearing can't float...

    Set 20 Bearing Variants?

It looks like the Currie spacer rings will work with the sealed bearings. Aside from that, I'm not sure there is much more to say here.

    Set 20 Bearing Variants?

Thanks for the feedback, Paul. I don't think there is any reason I can't use the sealed bearing, I just wanted to know if there was another option out there. I just returned from visiting every parts store in town and between them all I was able to get two bearings and seals. I will get it put...

    Set 20 Bearing Variants?

I have been working on a 1976 9" rear for a build I have been doing for my daughter (for years...). I pulled a set of Explorer rear brakes off of the donor we pulled the engine and transmission from and I have been setting the rear end up to accept the brakes. I used this project as an excuse...
