Door seal escapades....

For those of you who are tired of messing with upper door seals and glue, this stuff fits great and you just push it on over the flange.

I’m still fine tuning and trimming but it’s much easier than messing with glue. It hides your old glue residue and has that nice woven texture on the inside edge.

It should work on the bottom as well if you fillet the clip on part off. All you need is a sharp knife and a cold beer.....

Not a bit....but I only did the top so far.

How much did it take to do both uppers? Have you tried it on the liftgate?

A fifteen foot piece will do both uppers. I used a 10 foot piece, did one door, and had 42 inches left. I cut and mitered the corners and glued the ends back together. It is much nicer than the reproduction seals. It looks like it would be perfect for a liftgate. I’ve got more on order.

Thanks for the tip. I just bought 15' to give it a try. I've been annoyed with the upper seals as they seem to unglue themselves every few months. Even using 3m weatherstrip glue.

I only run a soft top so really needed windshield to door, but the concept is the same. Didn't see the ones you had - the profile you have looks nicer, but the round suck up a lot of space which I needed. I only wish there was something better for lower door seals as even the best (Metro) truly suck ass. I'm thinking about actually making a lower lip and use something like what we both used.

I suppose it is called a “Automotive door rubber seal”. The package says “Door rubber seal horiz.. 0.53 U height”.

Well I got the bottom of the drivers door done. I kept the rubber blocks at both ends and replaced the rest. It closes like a champ and it’s water tight...like a frog’s @ss.... It’s not even gonna think about leaking. It should cut down on wind noise at the front too.

I trimmed the windlace off of the horizontal section and glued the rubber on. You could use the pins if you have them.

Thanks, Slowleak! Obviously I did SOMETHING wrong. As much as I would like to think I can operate a computer/smartphone etc, I’m not as adept as I need to be.

I've never had good success with just using the glue. I think I'll try using the pins on that lower section like you state but I totally agree that it looks much better, will seal much better, etc. Brilliant!

You mitered the corners, right?

The top corners. The bottom is a solid piece. The other thing I did, which helps with wind noise, is add some 1/4 x 1/8 closed cell neoprene around the window frame. Almost has that new car “thunk” when you close the door...
