Engine block casting numbers

I have my bronco torn apart, currently waiting for some new seals (not navy seals) and a C4 adapter because mine was broken.
The engine and trans function fine prior to disassembly, so I only plan on cleaning and putting it back in.

While degreasing the engine and what not, and noticed the block casting numbers; well they don't seem to match my year bronco, it's a 74.

Does anyone have any details on these casting numbers?

Looks like you have a 1966 289 or 289 hipo.

Any chance you could take pics of the main bearing caps and the front of the crank, looking for the extra counterweight on the crank of a hipo...

C5 is a 1965 design revision date. That stays the same through the life of the casting until another design change happens. It might be several years until there needs to be a change.

The number after that, the part is an engine block. 6015 is the number for an engine block.

The 6F14 is the casting date. Year Month Day

This only tells you what the block was born as. Tells you nothing about the parts inside of it. So you are correct, not the original engine to your '74. Without opening it up and inspecting the parts inside, it is just a running small block ford V8 at this point. Was born a 289, probably. Could have been rebuilt with a 302 crank and rods ('74 block damaged and a replacement used)? But we know what the block is anyway.

The transmission sticker is not stock. There is no name on it, but it was rebuilt by a bigger transmission place. One big enough to have a transmission dyno to make sure it works before it was installed. From how the sticker reads, the rebuilder was not the installer. Hard to really say. But that transmission has been rebuilt sometime in its life

Try scanning the barcode on the trans...it might kick up something. I couldn't get it to read from your photo.

Svobronco, I don't have a barcode scanner, I uploaded a better photo.

Well I don't plan on disassembling, so it will remain a mystery for now.

Thanks a bunch broncobowsher!
