I'm tired of stacking compressors to get the CFM that I need to run my tools effectively. I'm thinking of finally investing in an air compressor so I can get my projects going again.
Anyone using this air compressor from sears? It costs a little more with shipping in Hawaii then what's listed online ($664.99),
Our Hawaii price this week on sale is $731.

The next size up is the 80 gallon model, adds another $500. to the cost.

I have a friend who has this same compressor and it works great. I have the next step down from this and it has lasted for 8 years no problems, but when I do need a new one it will either be this one or one from Ingersoll Rand just because I can get it at cost.

My dad has the same exact compressor. We put it in the basement so we dont have to listen to it. I believe we have had it for at least 6 years. I never burns a drop of oil in the head. We use craftsman synthetic in it and change it every 3 years or so. Never had to replace a belt yet or hardly even tighten it. it has never overheated either. Ours is difenatly a 220. And dont get anything dewalt! If that craftsman is on sale this week go for it....we have never wished we didnt get that one! And dont get suckered into a extended warrenty if they offer it!

I looked at that 80 gallon. That thing is a pig! With the two stage pump that would work sweet for a bussiness application, but i dont think you would need that for your garage.

I'd consider one a little bigger like one of the 2 stage units they will definetely handle the tools that use more air way better. While they do cost a little more I think in your case of having to get it shipped anyways it would be a better choice.

I had a single stage that looked nearly identical to that. It was OK but with my good die grinder I could outrun it. I stepped up to a 2-stage and never looked back. Both have 5HP ratings on them but the IR 2-stage will pump some insane volume and at high pressures to boot. If you are stacking multiple single stages to get CFM now, I would strongly suggest looking at a 2-stage compressor.

2-stage is easy to spot, it is 2-cylinders but the cylinders are noticably different bores. It will outflow a 2-cylinder single stage that you suggested (which is probably like the two single piston compressors you are currently running only in one housing and one motor driving them). 2 stage use the big cylinder to lightly compressor the air, intercool it, then do the final compression in the small cylinder. It brings the air up to pressure in stages instead of trying to do it all at once.

The problem I have with craftsman compressors is that they are NOT servicable. When the pump wears out it goes into the trash.... I wore one out in 3 years

I'd look at IR compressors, or another brand that you can rebuild, it should last forever that way.

You can always replace the pump if you need to. I've done it before on dedicated air supply sources.
I'm going get this 2nd hand one tonite, It's a deal for me.

Ausome deal MAD! I wouldnt say its second hand if its still bolted to the pallet. Thats sweet. We bolted our to the basement floor with some concrete anchors and some large rubber backed washers. Your gona love that thing. Them 2 stage ones are nice but are overkill for a one man band, unless you like to hold a impact in each hand like a cowboy and shoot wildly at the stars;D! And on the bottom ours i got a 1/4 turn lever attached to drain it.. I got a barb fitting i screwed into it and clamped a short piece of air hose to it. When i drain it in the basement i just put the hose in a pop bottle and open er up slowly. I suggest doing this because some nasty water comes out and im not sure you want that on the floor under the compressor. And open the valve slowly, and put a rag around the neck of the bottle! i made a mess a few times as the hose whipped out of the bottle and around in circles.

all the craftsman compressors I've had were serviceable. got the parts direct from sears. although I would suspect the older they get the less availible parts are. Current compressor my dad has is a oil less type every few years the piston needs to be replaced.
Most of the bigger compressors they sell are more than likely renamed campbell hausfeld compressors.
But it does tend to be easier to source parts for the mainstream names than the craftsman name.

This is how you haul a vertical compressor in your EB.

The 1st deal, the seller took awhile to call back so I browsed the local CL while I waited and to my surprise I found an ad for a similiar compressor for alot less than the 1st deal. I made the call and threw out a number, she said come and get it.
It is an older model but stiill pumps solid. Well taken cared of with low hours.

Got it for a steal, tested it on site before loading it up in the EB.

I've got the same style, only older, red in color. I have a atuomatic water drain on mine. It has a tube off the drain hooked up to an adjustable timer ,1 to 10 hours, that bleeds of the water. that way it's ready when I am,without the moisture. I do turn the compressor off when I'm gone or don't have a need for it . It takes about a week to bleed off a tank of air with the auto drain.
