1 inch body lift questions?

I was thinking of changing my body mounts due to some sagging. and thought to myself, out loud of course, that a 1 inch body lift should be done at the same time for other future mods. Has anyone done a 1 inch lift? What other things do I need to consider? I was hoping not to have to mess with all the other stuff, brake hoses, clutch linkage, etc. Any imput would help out a lot. I have a 72 sport, and was planning on using Wild Horses 1 inch lift, let me know what you guys think. I also have a 3.5 inch suspension lift.

I did a 1" body lift to make room for my 351W. Now I wish I did a 2" while I was doing it.

Youp need to consider anything that is attached to both the body and the frame. These include:
Main tank fuel filler and vent lines.
Electrical wiring.
Speedometer cable.
Brake lines.
Steering column/shaft.
Throttle linkage.
Clutch linkage.

Also you need some way to recenter the fan on the fan shroud.

The wiring and speedo cable shouldn't be a problem. A couple years ago I had replace my fuel filler and vent hoses, so they were still flexable enough to stand being moved. With a 1" lift you can still use the straight hose. I had to redo my brake lines from the master cyl. when I installed the 351, but you need to make sure you've got at least 1" of slack in the brake lines from the master cyl. I had previously installed power steering with u-joints in the steering shaft so no problem for me. If you still have stock manual steering you might have some alignment problems. The throttle linkage will need to be readjusted. With a 1" lift you should be able to get away with readjusting the clutch linkage. Any more than 1" lift and you will need to lengthen the clutch rod. I chose to remount the radiator 1" lower to recenter the fan shroud. You can make brackets to drop the fan shroud down 1" instead.

There is an excellent write-up in the most current issue of Bronco Driver on the Wild Horses 1" Body lift/mount kit (page 72). :)

I did this a few months ago and was very impressed with the kit. You don't need to pay any attention to anything othe than installing the lift. The 1" doesn't affect parking brake cables, brake lines, wiring etc. at all. you will need to check the fan-to-shroud clearance. Mine wasn't an issue and I didn't have to change anything. When you get into the bigger body lifts (2-3 in) is when you need to pay attention to all that other stuff.

Check out the BD article. It tells you exactly how to do it.

I did the 1" body lift. I only had to adjust the clutch and the shifter
linkage (three on the tree). I left my steering column and fuel filler
hoses as is.

I had extended brake lines and differential breather hoses for my 3.5"
suspension lift, so they were not an issue.

Remember to remove your fan shroud so that you don't break
something there when you jack up the body. You will need to buy
or make a new one for the 1" body lift.

I just did my W H 1" lift a couple of weeks ago and it was a breeze. I didn't have to disconect or adjust anything. Just pay attention to things eveyone else mentioned above while you are jacking the body up. Mainly fan shroud, brake lines, steering shaft and gas tank hoses. Eveything worked out fine on mine but every broncos different. Good luck

When I did my frame off (almost 2 years ago now). The sheet metal that was spot welded to the body was all broke, rusted and in short no good. I had new heavy duty sheet metal boxes made and had them made one in taller. That's my one inch lift, with stock size poly pucks. You may need to check out your sheet metal before ordering new body mounts.

That's a good call Bart, I was thinking about that. Right now the only rust I have are both my kick panels have holes in them, and the top of my rear fuel filler cover behind the wheel well is shot. But who's to say that those aren't bad also. I would hate to have to replace those mounts especially because welding is the one area I'm not too confident about.
