The recent 4wheel & off road just had a write up on axle swaps and talked about id'ing the 14 bolt. I dont have the mag nearby to check.

You can swap the outer hubs and change your WMS... handy, very handy! There are some little quirks when swapping like sometimes you need to trim an axle about 3/16" etc but easy stuff...

Dig out the machete!!! :)

Those 14 bolt's are so plentiful they literally grow right out of the brush! :)

Should. It’s old enough that at should predate the baby 14, easy to tell if it has full float hubs it’s the perfect donor.

Looks like the spot where my bronco came from. Some of my best vehicle finds required a chain saw to get out of the brush;D

I picked it up it measures 64 1/4” WMS To WMS . What gears should I run with 4r70W and 37” tires?

What kind of wheeling do you plan on doing??

Are you running an Atlas with deep gears or a doubler??

What size engine ya running?

Do you like the feeling of acceleration on the street or does it matter?

Need to know these 4 things at least to help ya out.

5.0 EFI engine now .I have a np205 but I have heard it’s not very low geared. Now it’s a ZF and Dana 20 35” tires 456 gears ARB air lockers. I went to Moab Bronco safari and the ford 9” arb broke the copper air pipe off the collar first day about 10 minutes after getting there .I am on the east coast and it’s about 1900 mile trip for me each way to Moab and I want it more dependable is why I want to go with a 14 bolt. I have been following your thread about you putting in a 14 bolt and going away from the atlas. I think my wheel base is to short for a doubler I have drive shaft angle issues now.

I think I said hi to you at the Safari...terrible luck for sure. The copper line doesn't just fall out so I'm guessing it was an installation issue or damaged before...either way-- 1900 miles one way for it to not work... sucks ;(

DS angles are not an issue with the ZF/203/D20. Less of an issue with a Titan as your doubler since it's only 5.33" long... how do I know? I ran a ZF/203/D20 for a dozen years never experiencing a single angle/Ujoint issue with tens of thousands of miles. Got a buddy still running his-probably 60,000 + miles on his-maybe more.

You said you had a 205...you are on your way... the Titan by NWFab link here: http://www.northwestfab.com/Titan-Series-NP205-BlackBox-i_p_2402.html

is designed specifically for the 205 and their goal was/is strength and a short package.

Your ZF/Titan/205 would be the shortest doubler package available and would be shorter than the doubler setup I ran and therefore unless your trying to run a huge 5.5" lift or more, you won't have ANY driveshaft angle issues...

Why do you want to dump the 9"? I realize the copper line failed for some reason, but is there more?? Expensive swap for a part that doesn't fail on it's own...only during installation.

The ARB copper air line failed, not the Ford 9 inch.

What traction device are you going to use with a 14 bolt?
If it is an ARB with a copper line and that copper line fails what rear end will you replace the 14 bolt with?

I would really like to hear how a copper line "failed". I have not seen the problem but I highly suspect the copper line failure is in line with all of the "hated, blue 5mm air supply line" failures... 99.9% of those failures are due to improper installation.

Really just wondering how it failed as I've installed many and have been using ARB'S exclusively in my Bronco since Feb of '87... no copper line failures. I smashed a copper line once but that's not a failure.

The collar that holds it in place has about 3/32 to 1/8” of play so I think it rocks back and forth when you go from forward to reverse so it broke where it is braised in at . The new updated design dose not have this brass pipe the ARB tech told me

Is this pic of your setup?

Shouldn't be any movement...the lock collar should be held in place securely so there's zero movement. Hmmmmm...
