I know the bell housing to the engine is way different but what about the transmission to bellhousing bolt pattern? I am about to do a nv3550 swap and needed to know if the bellhousing adapter is the same. I have a line on a free 351w but want to rebuild(408) it before I use it so I thought I would install the transmission now and the engine later.

The tranny side is the same. Installing now is fine but you'll have to move the mounts again when installing a V-8

I second that. I have been wondering how well an I6 would work with a good 5 speed. Of course proper axle gearing to use the overdrive will be needed.

I don't have proper gearing yet, I had 4.11 gears factory but when I installed full width axles they had 3.55 gears and I have not yet gotten gears for these. I was thinking either 35's so probably 4.56/4.88, or maybe some 52's with 5.38's :)

I have a 170 and stock 3 speed with 4.88's and 35's and I wish I had 5.13's.
I know that tranny you want to run is a little lower but I would recommend you to get atleast 4.88's with overdrive you could run 5.13's. I would stay away from 4.56 at all cost.

You forgot that a 351W is in his future 4.56's will work but I also think that 4.88's would be a better choice.

I have been wondering about the feasibility of an NV3550 with the I6 for my 66. Did you get it installed? Are you happy with the results?

I have a 435 behind my 6 with 4.88's and 37's its a good combo for me but it sees very little street driving . Mine is a little under geared on the steet but is almost perfect in 4 low. I think you would be happy with the 4.88s
