1966 Bronco wiring harness at the voltage regulator.

I have a question about the wiring at the voltage regulator on the early '66s. Early '66s have the regulator mounted on the driver's side of the radiator support and later '66s have the regulator mounted on the passenger fender tub. The question is with the early mounting and the wiring. There's 4 wires in a rubber connector that attaches to the regulator. One is white, that is the field terminal on the alternator, one is yellow for the ammeter, one is terminal is not used for the ammeter but used with a indicator light.

The one in question is the green wire with a red stripe that attaches to the "S" terminal of the regulator. I think this is the ignition switch lead. This wire on 'Buttercup" (U13FL73XXXX) is cut just outside the rubber connector. I have been looking for the other end in the harness and where it was cut and it seems to have never been outside the tape of the wire loom.

I decided to do more looking and discovered that my (U13FL75XXXX) is cut the same way! I have look at other '66s and the later ones, that have the regulator on the right fender, is not cut. Is it just my two have been cut for some reason, or is it that all the earlier production ones cut?

I'm probably going to post in the tech forum too, but thought it would get more response in chat and tech.... Look at the connector on your early '66 (if it's mounted on the radiator support) and post up a picture. Thanks!

Maybe a picture would help. Here is one I took several years ago from a '66 (770XXX) in a local wrecking yard. It had been there for decades but it's gone now.

Both my 9/65 u14 and 10/65 u15 are the same, green wire with red stripe goes up into the harness towards the passenger side. Both have the black connector or whatever that is.

Thanks Viperwolf and okie...I'm sorry that you had to go back to the shop!;D

This is pictures of what I'm describing...

Viper, if the regulator doesn't have 12 volts on the "switch" terminal of the regulator, what will it effect?

It's weird that another early '66 from 300 miles away and a different DSO would have the same wire cut almost identical to this one.....and I didn't find where the wire was cut from in the original harness either....

It appears the green wire with the red stripe has been cut on this one too.. This looks like the picture of Buttercup..

There doesn't appear to be a green coming out of the regulator connector on this one either Bobby...

Green/red from the harness down the black "plug" then white/black to the regulator on both. Salt Lake city and Cleveland DSO

Yes. All the '66s that I have looked at have the same green/red to the plug and then the white/black to the regulator. It's only the early '66 that has the green/red sniped off the connector..?:?

It appears that those rubber regulator connector plug that you posted the picture of doesn't have the green with red stripe wire made in the connector.

The reason of the scrutiny is the original regulator malfunctioned (alternator putting out max amps) so if guessed the points in it had stuck. I replaced the regulator with a electronic from Carpenter and it works fine most of the time, but occasionally, it will quit regulating power output and the alternator will go to max charge...
