170, I am pretty sure no 200 made it into early broncos.

The '66 is a 170. But a little different than the Mustang version. Solid tappets, 7 main bearings instead of 4.
The 200 replaced the 170 several years later as the base engine (I forget what year)

The 1964-1/2 Mustang got a 170 (engine code U in the VIN)
The 1965 - 1969 Mustangs got a 200 (engine code T in the VIN)

1966 - 1972 Broncos got a 170 (engine code F in the VIN)
1973 - 1974 Broncos got a 200 (engine code T in the VIN)

yeah, 170 orig & later in that 1st yr a 289 option.
A 200 only optioned (outside of the other 2) in ’73 & 4.
There after only bent8 (no other motor options I believe)
HTH.
BTW: there’s a lill involved in ID* of the 6 different ThriftPower ford, this gen, i6s.
The 2 misnomered (is not ford lingo) "big block"s (a cheb term) are easy. A 240 was 1st/developed into
the world famous 300/3.9 (million mi motor, ‘the gasser that’s a diesel”) both have a removable intake,
a side plate covers the PRs. The 4 lill guys (144 was 1st - a vedub Bug ‘beater’ @ mrkt in the Falcon) or 2.3
this 170/2.8, 200/3.3, ‘odd ball' 250/4.1 (named for SBF-bell, like 289/300) . These 4 have the attached (‘log’) or
integrated intake. Each is a sort of stroked model of the lesser displacements. *Those ID points involve counting
frez plugs, noting some casting numbers behind down pipe on exhaust, checking the pad @ draft tube area, & coun-
ting H2O pump bolts. Thnx 4 ur interest in these remarkable to me) lill motors. @ 1 time we were laughed off this site for
interest/use. I found ford6 to be very: informative, friendly. https://fordsix.com/forums/144-250-small-block-six-performance.1/

Make sure to count your freeze plugs on the right side of the block to make sure the 170 didn't get swapped out for a 200 sometime in its life. A 170 has 3 freeze plugs and the 200 has 5.

any thing can happen in 60, 70 yrs. Who knows what was swapped in or not. When I got mine in ‘82
it had 2 dip sticks, one each side 8^ 0 2nd owner, the garage (shell) manager/mechanic put ina falcon motor
due to some 1 blowin it up? Not sure how it got there. The A/C housing was gone as the 170 sat in there too hi.
Top rim of the air horn just missing the hood while the stud-for-nut was denting the hood. A rear sump (correct)
pan was on, that accounts for the passenger’s side stick. Other was @ the dizzy, correct for the falcon. Lots more
stories but, 8 daze w/o a post? I’d say ur gone?
