1966 Hard Top Lift Gate

I am currently restoring a hard top. I did not realize when I bought it that it was from 1966 and the lift gate was unique to all other years. I have decided to keep it "stock" as I think I have all the parts and found an original 1966 handle. But, I just can't figure out how the "spider" part is to be spaced on the square of the handle and how that integrates with the round stand-off on the lock bracket. Does someone have a diagram or pictures they can provide?
Also, I had to get new connecting rods. I bought the ones listed as 66-68, but the length seems incorrect. Does someone know the correct length of these so I can rework them?

Maybe member Oldtimer will chime in with some of his factory diagrams.
I know a few other members have also had similar projects.
Hopefully you’ll get a few suggestions soon.

Restoring a '66 top is a commitment, kudos for sticking with the correct, unique parts! The '66-'68 latch mechanism assembly is definitely one of the more finicky parts of that process. You are not alone in having trouble with the "spider" spacing and rod length. The assembly sequence is key here, and the aftermarket rods sometimes need adjustment.
This one is a 66 into 67 latch only.

Photos from my '67 shop manual with part #'s.

One of the parts looks different (latch release lever) so it appears there were at least minimal changes from '66 to '67.

Thank you all for the information. Sorry it has taken a while to reply. I will be working on this again after Christmas and the diagrams will definitely help.
