I was testing all my guages today and noticed my temp stayed at about 130 for about 15 min at idle. When I turned it off it went up to 170. The Temp today was about 50. I have flushed out the radirator and heater core in Sept. I put in a new thermosat but did not look to see what the temp rating was. What should the Thermosat temp be or is what I have ok?

My '77 came with a 194 degree thermostat. Maybe because it also came with a bunch of emissions equipment.?:?
I started using a 180 because that's what was used back in the day. %)
I switched it back to a 194 because it just ran peppier that way.;)

I run a 194 also. Seems odd to me that it idled for 15 minutes and never got up to temp though? There was another thread recently about an EB running cold. Definitely not the norm

Hi, after seeing the quality of brand name thermostats decline, I switched to
Motorcraft brand. They look much better then most from the auto parts store. Good luck

The heat spike once you turn it off is normal. Heat soak. The metal is hotter than the water. Moving water is pulling the heat away. Stop the water flow and the metal and water will stabilize.
