I noticed a 1996 351 e250 van and decided to pop this motor out.

I didnt want the E7 heads or lower intake and ditching them let me pay just $110 for a short block. If I use it I will put some GT 40P heads on it and the Lightning lower with an Explorer EFI.

Pulled the heads in the junk yard and cylinder bores were beautiful. I am gonna measure the cylinders and am thinking it prolly just needs a ball hone.

Gt 40P heads are around 61cc, any idea what my compression would be with these stock pistons and a 61cc GT 40P head?

I am assuming I could buy a set of pistons to bump compression up to around 10:1 is my goal. What would my compression be with the 61cc heads and these?

The P heads should bump the compression from 8.8:1 to a smidge over 9:1.
I honestly wouldn't try to raise it anymore if you're planning on pump gas. The P heads will ping because of the design of their chambers.

Great score!

If the cylinders are still good as is, I'd go with standard Flat Top pistons and Moly Rings.

Go back and get the serpentine system too. The Van should have the Saginaw pump as a bonus. The whole serpentine system drops right into the Bronco without any modifications. Use a 1/2" fan spacer and 17" rigid fan and you are set. The original fan shroud will need minor trimming.

My 351w is from a 1996 E350 van.

It was clean on the inside too. I did punch it 20 over and had everything checked and anything needed done. It measured out at between 8 and 9 thou's wear in the bores.

Also went with GT40P heads. You will need to have the bolt holes opened up to mount them on the W. I had mine decked to clean them up. Well resurfaced more then decked. If you go with a cam bigger than stock you will need new springs. I change the valve steam seals and lapped the valves after cleaning the P's up.

Good stock cam "explorer cam" and it ran well with Stang EFI. I reused all the valve train

I made the van front dress work.....but went electric fan.......Van alt was like 130 amp (no more dim lights).

The 5.8L (351W) roller cam is the same cam as used the 5.0L Explorer, so you gain nothing by changing one for the other. It was the only SBF cam in the Ford inventory by then and was also used in 5.0L truck engines.

I got the oil pan, balancer, flywheel, serpentine brackets and Saginaw pump included for free with the $110 short block charge.
The alt was already gone.

I'm running the "van pan" with no issues. 2.5SL and 1BL

I had to grind on the PS pump bracket to clear the lines on the steering box. Might be the lines I'm running and the Delphi box?
