2nd to 3rd Flare

I have been battling a 2nd to 3rd gear flare (slip) with my C4. I solved the majority of my problem by blocking the dual ported red stripe modulator's small port, which resulted in a complete elimination of the flare after truck was run a mile of two. I still had the flare for the first mile or so, but shifted great thereafter all day.

I attempted to eliminate the "cold flare" by retorqueing the valve body, given that I did not used torque wrench the first time, readjusting the forward band to 1 /3/4 and switching out the dual ported red stripe modulator to a green stripe modulator. The result was cold flare and flare all the time. I switched back to the red stripe modulator with the small port plugged, given that I am not running an egr, and, although I have no flare when truck is warm, the cold flare still exist.

Any ideas for next steps to eliminate cold flare from 2nd to 3rd?

Thanks for any help.

Looks like I found the fix

Thanks for all your detailed responses. Oh, wait a minute, no one actually responded. I'm just kidding, but it appears I fixed my flare problem and thought I should provide an update for those that might have a similar problem.

Initially, I plugged the small port on my red stripe modulator, which helped remove the 2nd/3rd flare when the engine was warm, but I still had a flare when engine was cold. After retorqueing valve body, adjusting bands, changing modulator from red to green stripe then back to red stripe, I remembered a post saying to leave the small port open to ambient air. I figured I'd try it before going to a complete rebuild and it worked! No flare in cold or hot conditions when going from 2nd to 3rd gear.

I will keep testing to make sure it holds up, but I think I've got it.

well I for one thank you, I've had 2 to 3 shift flare for a long time and have never been able to figure it out. I am going to try your method, thanks.
