2wd Explorer 4r70w dana 20 trans adapter installation question.

Is this installation as simple as removing the 2wd tail shaft housing, slipping on the provided aluminum 4wd housing, slipping on the spud shaft and index ring and I am done? Or does the trans have to be completly broke down by a trans shop to replace it's output shaft?

The wild horses info says clearly the kit is for 4wd transmissions not 2wd transmissions. I would think if you are trying to use a 2wd transmission, then a tailshaft change will be necessary.

That is the kit I used and yes it is as simple as that, BUT mine was a 4x4 transmission. I would make a couple phone calls to see if it works on the 2wd unit.
I think you need kit #8330 for a 2wd.

Id agree that kit is for a 4wd tranny. A 2wd tranny requires a different kit and transmission disassembly to install the output shaft.

2WD transmission requires complete tear down to change the output shaft. And while it is torn apart it is a good time to look at refreshing the seals, bushings, frictions.
