I would not mind rolling the lip.. I would just kill me if the tire cought the fender and bent the hell out of it... I have done a few searches and have only found afew but do not show how much you can stuff a uncut with 33" and not rip up the fender... thats my concern... I did see 3 1/2 " with bfg AT 33/9.50 but they are on stock wheels !!
how wide is a stock wheel ? backspacing???

it shouldn't bend it. My 33 12.50s with 4.5" of lift rub on the trails. It tears the hell out of the tire, but the fender has enough play in it. Sure you could run a 9.50 with stock offset rims and be fine with no rolling and no rubbing, or very little. But these trucks have a narrow wheel base, and those are narrow funny little tires with a high CG. I am sure it would be fine, it just all depends on the ultimate look you are going for.

If it will be a wheeling rig any you want 33s with travel, just cut and get it over with. New quarters are only $90 each if you ever want to sell it and feel like the cut fenders are affecting your resale by more than $180.

i was planning on running this same setup on my 77. using the stock steel wheels and a set of 33x9.5's that i have. the only downfall is bfg discontinued the 33x9.5's...still make the 33x10.5's but not the 9.5's :'(

You are correct in the fact they did discontinue the 33x9.50 MT's, But the AT's are still available.

I'm still currently working on the lift springs in the front(busting bolts/eazy-outs), but will post some pics when I'm done............

Don't cut it!

not necisarily easy. but for some change its back to uncut. So don't let that affect your decision. Make it how YOU like it no matter what any one else here thinks. I'm cutting tomorrow AM! ;)

What would be really nice, and a PITA at the same time would be to make the quarters removable for the trail then you could have the best of both worlds... (not that it would be stokc, but you'd have the uncut look).

The sidewalls on the ATs are pretty strong. But if your planning on wailing on the sidewalls, I imagine the type of surface you will be on to do that will not be very freindly with the ATs. The BFG AT is a great tire and will hold up fine for very light trail duty. But its not meant for the mud, its not meant for the rocks. You just won't have the traction you will get out of the MT. Not saying you'll have no traction, but with a skinny foot print on an AT, it will be "interesting".

I have wheeled with both and though the AT will allow you to have some fun there is just no comparison off the road with the MT.

thats a pretty biased comparison. The MTs are pretty quiet, especially on a V-8 EB with the wind and engine noise. They do get louder as they wear. They wear GREAT on the road for an MT. The mud comparison of 9 and 10 is WAAAAAY off. If you only hit the trails once a year and do nothing too exciting then yes the AT is the way to go. If you hit them more than once a year and want to have more fun without cussing at your tires the MT is the way to go. Its all personal preference, but for ANY offroading the MT is winner hands down to any AT, and the BFG MT is a great truck street tire (unless you race around corners in the rain.)
