Found a super deal on a new 300 crate engine. How hard is it to fit this long sucker in an EB. I did a search and didn't find much. Just want to know the basic problems that come up. Any help or a link would be great.
Thanks

Your basic problem is its too long. Been done a few times but with some modifications to firewall and/or core support.

The engine is as long as the engine compartment. After you drop the engine in where do you mount the radiator?

one would imagine that you would need to make a tube core support and use an electric fan.

I assume the good deal is in Florida? How much are they?

I really like that engine and the thought of having a fuel injected 300 in an EB exits me almost as much as having a 393 or 408. I find it a heck of a lot more attractive a swap than a 4bt.

There are quite a few conversions and it really didn't look like it was that much work. Heck its obvious just from your rear fenders you could esily handle all of the sheetmetal work. I do not remember for sure but it seemed that they use stock water pump and fan, and move the engine back into the firewall. Most of the ones I have seen didn't have that drastic of a firewall cut either.

I could have sworn there was a recent thread from someone that just finished one but I can't find it either.

Thanks guys, The motor is brand new ( crate motor) was going to be used to run a pump in a field. It is complete ready to run even has the alternator and belt. $ 400.00 I should go with a 302 but just got to look into this.

It does fit OK without any firewall mods if you do not use the stock intake and go with (IIRC) an Offy aftermarket intake. The rear intake runner of the stock intake is what hits the firewall on the pass side...and the Offy (or it might have been Clifford) has a different radius that clears. Even if you keep it stock, the notch required in the firewall is minimal.

I looked on the link that Gritz posted and that project looks good. looks like an easy fit to me. Lots of good information there. If I can get the motor I will do it. I am waiting for a call back on the motor. The 300- 6 with the 435 combo should be good for running around in the michigan woods.

A friend of mine has exactly that setup in his EB and has for a decade or more...he's always been very happy with it. Very hard reliable engines..those 300s. I hve an old '78 F-150 4x4 with 300 and NP435..cn't kill it.

i love mine!

fellas, all that has been said here is true...

it has some interesting mods to the engine compartment. if you use a manual, clutch linkage is interesting unless u use hydraulic. front cross member has to be cut down. actually drops right in if you use an original 170 frame! you won't have to move the tranny at all, unless you do a np435! If you use the 170 mounts you have to move the radiator forward or just run an electric fan, I personally didn't want to trust just an elec fan. As far as the power, a 302 gets most of its power revving up as well as the 351, the 300 has power right from the start! Love this mod worth every dime! and if you decide to go another route, I would love to have that engine, i'll give you 400 for it rhgit now and come get it!
