I am thinking about swapping out the 302 in my 73 bronco with a 351W out of my 85 F250 4X4, the bronco is a 3 speed with no ps or pb and the pu has a C6 auto. Will the pilot bearing for the manual trans fit in the crankshaft and will the 302 pressure plate work? Will the truck 351W oilpan work, and other than exhaust is there anything else I will have to watch out for?

Pilot bushing will work just fine
Flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, starter will work just fine.
Motor mounts will work
The 302 oil pan will NOT. But the '85 pan will work but will need a little clearance for the diff. This is usually done by installing the engine and then bottoming the suspension, create the dent then put good bumpstops on it.

Only other thing is the front accessory drive. The '85 will have the waterpump on the wrong side and the 3 groove lower puller will limit fan clearance to the radiator. But Bronco accessory drive (from the timing chain cover forward) will carry over the timing marks and get you the right waterpump inlet the easiet. They make a simple spacer for the alternator that even lets you keep the existing 302 alternator belt. I recently saw some sitting on the shelf at Driven Auto Parts here in Phoenix 602-318-4628 (my plug for the week)

New Plan, I just came across a fairly low milage good running 302 out of a 74 van will this be a bolt in swap without any problems? The van motor is only 200 bucks and I figure that would be cheaper than buying exhaust and other things needed to install the 351(really tight budget)The 302 has new clutch and bellhousing on it are they the same as the bronco and will the van oil pan work?
Thanks for the help I'm a converted chevy man and not real familiar with ford swaps, chevy is easy pretty much one size fits all.

:p :p :p I would go with the 351W a better motor more torque. The exhaust will work if you have duel pipes. You can also use the water pump from the 302 on the 351W. If you go the other way I would use the stock bronco pan. Good luck and have fun.:D :D :D Bill %) ;D

I used a 302 out of an 87 econoline. The axle definately made itself some room in the oilpan, lucky it didn't punch right through. If you do get a 302, just swap the pans. If you get the 351, you can hack the bronco pan and graft it into the 351 pan, though you may get flamed for it...
