Here's the situation, I have a 69 with a 302, edelbrock intake and 4 barrel carb. Will this fit on my 289? Might be a bad question... My 289 seems to stall out, at highway speeds, and I have read many posts on this site about this but I just changed my fuel filter, and it did it again. Almost like it runs out of gas but then it will restart and run a while longer. I would like to switch carbs because I just rebuilt the 302 one. Please let me know. Thanks in advance

Can't say it will fix your problem, but the intakes will swap around just fine. There are no signifient differences between a 302 and a 289. Do watch the water passages at the ends of the heads, there are some changes over the years, but not as a result of 289 vs. 302, just Ford playing around with different ideas. Most are interchangable. Every once in a great while you will find just the right intake that won't work with gust the right head. But that is fairly rare and almost never a problem. But be warned the few that have had the problem tend to be very vocal about it. The rest of us just swap it around all the time and don't have issues and don't bother to speak up about it. Half the time I pull intakes I don't even really know what engine it is really from anyway.

My original '69 302 heads and new edelbrock 289/302 intake are now on a '66 289 block. Runs great. You just need to make sure the intake-to-head ports match, as Bowsher said.

Gooooood to hear. I know it might not fix my problem, but its a step in the right direction. The 289 carb was cleaned who knows when, and the 302 was just cleaned. So if it ends up not being the problem then I am at a loss for what it would be... Fingers crossed! And thanks for the help.

I had a bad fuel pump that would cause the engine to run out of gas when I put any sort of a load on the engine, like climbing a hill on the highway, or if I tried to go over 60mph. I was able to get by and make it home by pulling over and letting it idle until I could see the fuel filter fill back up with fuel and then was good to go until the next hill. just a thought.
