Best intake for a 4 barrel carbed daily driver 302 Bronco

I am used to building higher rpm vehicles and know what 4 barrel intake to use for a 302 for 75-80 mph highway cruisers but what would be a good aftermarket aluminum 4V intake for more of a off-road lower rpm use. It is a 74,302 manual transmission Bronco

The bigger factor for off road will be the carb. Best options there are a stock autolight or a q-jet. The other factor is are you willing to cut the hood for a scoop to fit your set up. A 2"-3" body lift will open up the intake options with a q-jet..

Assuming allot.....any dual plane that fits under the hood. There are combos that will fit under the stock hood but I can't speak to them as I've not done it.

More to the point, your ask of 70-80mph on the highway is going to be more a product of proper gearing than a 4bbl. Stock 2bbl and correct gearing for tires and stock 3 speed will do 70mph as I've done it for years.

The 70 to 80 mile an hour comment was about previous cars the OP had built.
Now they’re looking for recommendations for street and off-road in a heavy, unwieldy bronco.

The 90% go-to in that case, is an Edelbrock Performer. Low enough to fit under the hood, dual plane for better off idle and low RPM performance, so readily available it’s almost ubiquitous, and usually the winner of a shootout by a hair.
That hair is given up usually to a Weiand Stealth.

I have an Edelbrock performer intake with a Demon 4 barrel and a 2” air cleaner. Fits nicely but I have a 2” body lift. If I didn’t have a body lift I would need to do a recessed air cleaner but it would fit. With my setup I have about 1” between the air cleaner and hood supports. You can pickup a couple of inches with some of the aftermarket air cleaners if needed.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have a small hood scoop on a stock hood,so doubt that hood clearance will be an issue.

I’ll add my situation. BP306 with quadrajet, AX15. I run the Weiand street warrior which is off idle to 5500. No body lift. No scoop. Dropped edlebrock air cleaner.

Edlebrock Performer and Edlebrock 1406 4bbl on a 347 stroker. Cranks easily and hasn’t flooded out…yet. Keep waiting on the carb to take a crap 💩 on me like the Holly did on the ‘72 302.

I have more questions than answers.
Weiand if I'm not mistaken is the only manifold setup for the qjet bolt pattern. The qjet is the best for off road as far as 4bbl are concerned.

Yes you can use an adapter in the others at the cost of height and potential vacuum leaks.

The off manifold has the q-jet bolt pattern but needs a little clearancing for the q-jet butterflies. On my 72 I've got a 351w, offy manifold, q-jet, with an Edelbrock elite triangle air cleaner and a 2" body lift to fit under a stock hood.

I did the 2bbl to 4bbl switch about 6 years ago when I first got my bronco. Edlebrock performer manifold and 500cfm avs2 carb. Fit fine no body lift at the time. Wish I had just kept 2bbl carb. My 302 doesn’t make enough torque and hp to need the 4bbl and don’t drive it hard enough to need the 4bbl.

I run the same setup on my 70. Once you tune the AVS carb, it runs great.

For a square bore carb, the Edelbrock Performer has been a time tested and well proven intake for decades. Often copied, some better than others. Edelbrock even casts them locally in California for the past couple of decades as well. If you had a stock hood I would even toss in a stock cast iron 4-barrel intake as a valid option on an otherwise stock engine.

Now for a Q-jet, I would look for a spreadbore specific intake over using an adaptor. Limited choices, but a dual plane arrangement from anyone will do fine.

I used a stock 4-barrel intake (C5AE-9425-M) with an Autolite 4100. Advantages: The intake is made for the iron block and fits just like our stock 2-barrel intakes. The 4100 is identical to the 2100 but just has two more barrels. Everything works and fits as the stock arrangement. And the intake fits without leaks. When I had Holleys and Edlebrock carbs, all I seemed to do was fiddle with them. Not so with the 4100. Slap it on tune it using the factory manual from Ford for 4100s (big plus there), and forget it.
