I have been having carb problems lately and switched from a holley to an edelbrock to see if it was a carb problem. Ran well when I changed it (about 20 miles) sat for a week and now I go to start it and barely get any gas out too the carb (clear fuel filter). Once it starts I have to keep the throttle half way down to keep it running. And now it is spitting out a gas oil mixture out of the breather on the valve cover. What could be causing this? Thanks guys and gals.

Check your oil level. Overfilled? Fuel pump could be dumping excess gas into the sump. PCV sucking gas fumes, I have actually heard of engines running (idling anyway) on just the gas fumes coming off the PCV.

oil level is good, new fuel pump. Is the pcv the line connected to the valve cover by a hose coming from the carb? If so that hose is going to the passenger side valve cover and the breather is on the driver side valve cover

yes it is. it shouldn't JUST be a line, though. there should be a 2-3" long plastic doohicky (not the official term) that those hose connects to. that's the pcv. then the pcv is plugged into the valve cover.

ya sorry I have the "2-3" long plastic doohicky" thing as well. Any other thoughts on what might be the problem?

Could be two diff problems. Even if carb is new it could have crap stuck in jets or float sticking not allowing fuel to flow. Not pumping thru filter. Even if fuel pressure is good it will not fill filter due to no place to go, blocked by air. Hose from carb to PCV valve should be pulling vacuum thru engine from filter on other side. I'd fix your fuel problem and go from there.

you sure you're getting fuel out of the breather?
I'd do a compression check

Yes it is fuel and oil mixed, at least that what it smells like and it is has a consistency of runny oil, not water its gas. But I can do a compression check just in case.

Had this problem once on another vehicle and it was the furl pump! Fuel was leaking back into the crank case!
