35 Spline ARB Reliability

Curious what everyones opinion is on the reliability of a 35 Spline ARB. I picked up a parts Bronco that has a rear axle already set up with a new ARB, 35 Spline axles, and 4.56 gears that I am thinking about using in my current build.

I don't really need an ARB I would be just as happy with a Truetrac, but I have it already and it's setup and ready to install

I only ask because I had a Bronco with a 31 Spline ARB and I had some problems with it bleeding off inside the differential. It gave me fits until I finally switched it out with a Detroit.

A few of us here have a jaded past with 35 spline ARB’s. Me personally, I’d swap it to anything else. My experience had been very poor with ARB’s of all flavors. I know many have had flawless luck, some us not so much.

Thread jack in gage.

Yeller what selectable locker are you running if any? I’m thinking about going the OX route.

Sorry Fishguy…

Too early on a holiday weekend morning. Someone here will go into detail on how horrible they are. They will chime in soon enough.
Before you go down the road of they are junk, consider the power levels and driving style of the people who dislike them. Is that your plan? If so, probably a bad idea. But if you are not running massive HP, spinning big tires as hard as you can. Well the 35 spline is probably way overkill, but will be just fine. And the ARB will likely work just like you want it to.
Not knowing your plans, can't say if it is good or not. For a recreational use, I would run it. Competitive rock bouncing, I would be doing more research.

This is going in a driver style build with a a coyote.

I bought a 74 Limestone Green Ranger that has been sitting since 1998 due to a blown head gasket.

The plan is to keep the paint and body original and rebuild the drivetrain with a Gen2 Coyote and 6r80 I bought a few years ago. Going to run a 35" tire and will be mostly street driven with maybe some snow trips and light offroading. Probably spend some time on the sand dunes as well

The ARB is overkill for me, but as I said, I already have it and I don't have to buy/sell/trade parts.

I put 2 ARB's in the 4rnnr 4-ish years ago (recently sold it) and had zero issues, but a quirk. I used pneumatic toggle switches instead of the solenoid valves. I routed the exhaust air from turning them off into the engine bay. Good thing that I did because the sintered pneumatics muffler that I put on the end of that tubing was always a little wet with gear lube, as was the fender liner right under the muffler. Were I to do this again I'd place the muffler where there was nothing under it. I made sure that the axle vents were free-breathing and I extended them well up into the underside of the vehicle using 3/8" hose.

Not an option with a 9", but I went with a pneumatic actuated OX for the 35 spline D60 under the rear of the FSB.

FWIW I ran the 4rnnr's ARB's and the FSB's OX off of the OBA system and not an ARB compressor. Others are happy with the ARB compressors, but I'm not too impressed with them. I used Puma 12VDC compressors for the OBA. Both have been separated from the tank that comes with them. I used the uma tank ont eh 4rnnr, but mounted in a different location. The FSB got a truck air brake tank. OBA pressure is set to 125-135 psi, and I regulate that down to the desired operating pressure for the ARB's and the OX (they're slightly different).
