Well I kinda feel like an ass. :p Started my NV4500 install yesterday. Pulled the old transmission and transfer case and bellhousing. Replaced the old 1 1/16" clutch disk with the new 1 1/8" clutch disk, after test fitting the new disk on the tranny. Realized I didn't have a 1 1/8" clutch alignment tool so I used my 1 1/16" one. Then got to thinking that maybe I better test fit the tranny input shaft, to make sure the disk is aligned before I bolt the bellhousing back on. Well, bottom line is, after fighting with the tranny for a couple hours, I finally realized that the end of the input shaft is bigger on the NV4500 than is is on my old 3-speed. It would not go into the pilot bearing! Checked it with my calipers just to be sure.

So, the question is... Does anyone know what the number of the pilot bearing is???

Thanks..

I don't have a part number handy, but the NV4500 requires a pilot bushing with a .75" hole. Advance Adapters sells them but I believe they are an off the shelf part. Mine came in the AA adapter kit. The instructions with their adapter kit said to soak the pilot bushing in oil over night before installing it.

Thanks, lars. Yeah, I got the .75 when I compaired the input shafts. Guess I'll just pop out the current pilot bearing and mic the OD. Then take a trip to the NAPA store. They've got a couple good guys there that don't mind researching stuff like that.

I've never heard of soaking the pilot bushing in oil..?? I guess it can't hurt!

Found the OD for you, in case you don't have it out yet: 1.377", off Advance Adapter's site.
